About Cecelia

I had the privilege and honor to work with mentally challenge seniors. middle age adults and children for over 30 years. My work experience involves working, in classrooms, shelter workshops, and group homes. The experience was providing quality care for the seniors as well as implementing and developing activities and goals to meet their needs. Shelter workshops were set up in to develop goals for the students in preparing them for jobs in our society as well as the opportunity to manage money. Classroom setting permitted me to work with students one-on-one assisting with academic skills. My training in crisis management techniques was valuable in controlling the students who displayed negative behavior. This decreased the negative and was placed with the positive. Behavior modification program was established as a reward system for the positive behavior displayed. Working with the mentally challenged population enhanced my knowledge of human beings that struggle with learning in this every changing world. I found it an honor to be employed in the mentally challenged institutions, such as schools, and developmental and training centers. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I believe teaching is a gift from God. I have always taken care of children. At the age of 12 I had a job babysitting. As I became an adult, I worked as a Sunday School teacher and the Superintendent. I also was chairperson for childrens church. I've had the opportunity to work with students in summer programs and in the mentally population teaching them academic, social, and physical skills. The opportunity of working one-on-one was rewarding. I remember a student who had difficulty writing (age 12). I worked diligently and patiently with him. He didn't display perfect writing skills, but improvement was noted.

I hold a AAS in Handicap Program,BA in Social Science with Education Concentration, Children Ministry Leadership Certification from Philadelphia College of the Bible and a certificate in Senior Counselor for summer program. I will always have a desire to teach, train and educate children with special needs and those who struggle in other areas.

Special Needs

I possess an AAS in the handicap program and a BA in social science with education concentration. I have experience working with the mentally challenged individuals for 30 years. I find it quite rewarding. My experience involves technician, manager, substitute teacher, and supervisor of senior enrichment programs shelter workshops, classrooms and group homes. I had the opportunity to work with the most severe behavioral students. My training in crisis management situation enabled me to decrease the behavior. Behavior Modification Plans were implemented. The students looked forward to the reward system in place. When given the opportunity to substitute at the alternative school, I realize the student had potential. My compassionate, dedication, and commitment proved that everyone can learn, if only given the opportunity.
I believe that we are in a forever learning world. I do not know think it is necessary to label anyone. Being unique is the only label needed. If given the opportunity I would like to prove that intelligence is sometimes hidden due to a lack of patience and genuine concern for individuals. My experience has shown that everyone can learn. The age ins important, just the opportunity allotted.
