About Caelin

I am a recent graduate from Georgian Court University. I have a Bachelor's of Art degree in Psychology with two minors in English and Holistic Health. I am Professional Tutor in the Georgian Court University Writing Center, where I work with students on a variety of different assignments under several disciplines. I have worked with students on simple papers, research assignments, resumes, personal statements, and senior thesis papers.

When working with students, I go into each session differently based on the student's needs, goals, and skill level. I use a minimalist approach with students who have the skills but lack the confidence because I find that they just need someone to sit with them while they go through their papers and fix their errors without much directions. As far as students who need more than a confidence boost in their writing skills, I like go through each paper sentence by sentence, having students read their own writing exactly the way it is - helping them discover grammar and mechanic issues.

While I have expansive experience in college-level writing tutoring, I am also capable of working with younger students who need help with math, reading, language arts, and public speaking. I have worked with students between the age of 6-13 in the past and enjoy working with them because of their desire to learn and do the best that they can.

A little bit more about me, personally - I really enjoy reading for leisure, watching Netflix before bed, and playing with my dogs. I originally went into college in the pursuit of becoming a K-6 teacher with a special education certification. The only deterrent in achieving that degree was my calling to work with larger communities, otherwise I would be spending every day working with students!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

I have always been told that I have really good handwriting that is easy to read. When student teaching, I had the opportunity to teach script to 3rd grade students. When teaching script to the students, I would start with a simple shape and work the shape step-by-step to learn how to do each letter. Eventually, students learn how do clear letters whether it is print or script and how to connect letters to formulate words.

Public Speaking

I am qualified to tutor Public Speaking because I have given presentations at conferences even with my own anxieties towards speaking publicly. Additionally, working at Georgian Court, I have had sessions with students who wanted to go over their presentations before giving them. I find that having students write small talking points on note cards, articulating each word and roleplaying the WORST possible outcome so the actual moment is much less terrifying.
