bachelor of arts, univerisity of Michigan (French language)
Michigan State University (Master's)
I lived in Paris for many years, teaching English as a second language to grade school students as well as university students. I speak, read and write French fluently, and have helped several students increase their language skills and really learn to enjoy speaking English and French. I taught French at Michigan State University.
I have tutored English and French to people of all ages and skill levels for many years now in the U.S. I also learned to teach piano, as I took music lessons for many years, and music is, after all, a language!
Some say that it is the language of the heart.
I go to people's homes, and am able to teach French, English or piano to students of all ages, including children with special needs, including Aspergers, ADD, and other learning disabilities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a piano teacher for sixteen years. I teach students of all ages, as well as students with learning disabilities. I have taught students with Aspergers, ADD, dyslexia, and brain tumors.
I am very patient and non threatening, and I am able to focus on the student in a very supportive way, stressing strengths and offering encouragement. I have a lot of success with young students, but I have also had adults who had traumatic experiences with piano teachers in the past who began again and really love music as a result of learning in a non threatening manner, focusing on the joy of music and not on making mistakes. I do, however, use a classic method, a book for learning to read music, with notes and correct fingering. If the child is younger, I incorporate writing and drawing exercises as well. Each student is tested at the beginning for their ability to sit for thirty minutes, and to be able to read music.
I have been sewing complete items of clothing since the age of eight. I learned first in school in third grade, and then through a formal course at the Singer Sewing Center. I further studied fashion design in Paris.
I have completed garments such as coats and wedding dresses, as well as repaired and altered wedding gowns. I am a teacher for almost thirty years. I love sewing! I worked at the Singer sewing center, selling fabric and giving tips to people on sewing.
I am a writer of books for children as well as a free-lance writer and teacher of English. I taught English for many years in Paris and tutored many students at home. Please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help you achieve the success you need and desire!
