I'm an ambitious teacher, sensitive to the individual student's wishes. I believe that it's my responsibility to motivate and guide the student through an exciting and successful learning process. My goal is to avoid stress and frustration, but encourage confidence by lining out a never overwhelming but effective learning path.

I've been born in Germany, went to school and to different Universities in Germany and Switzerland and think and feel in German language. Next to English I'm speaking French and travelled all over the world, which sharpened my understanding of the importance of knowing different languages. I love literature and am very interested in the intricacies of translations. I know that words are important and I'm also aware of hidden meanings in between the lines - I teach German language in all it's complexity.

I studied and graduated in Europe in Medical Illustration in Bochum and Fine Art in Kiel and studied Literature and Theatre science in Cologne. My interest in studies of nature from early years on helped me to develop astonishing eye-to-hand drawing techniques. I've been born with a passion, but not with a just given talent. I became never the less extraordinarily skilled in drawing, because I listened to the input of good teachers and I practiced a lot. Under professional guidance anybody can become capable of creating remarkable art. I pride myself of supervising my art students in the most thoughtful way, which leads to stunning results.

I had the opportunity to teach drawing at the Muthesius Hochschule in Kiel and the The Volkshochschule in Cologne as well as at the school for Kunst und Gestaltung in Zuerich / Switzerland. My students were all grown ups. At the Volkshochschule, my teaching effort was on enabling the students to understand the basics of the art of drawing, to awaken their ability to "see" and use their right side of the brain. It's important to me, that students come to believe, that they don't need a miracle to draw in a realistic manner, but that they can learn techniques just like for any other skill. Once they understand and practice, they feel usually a big pride like having reached the other side and they feel as if they could master any challenge in the matter of drawings, because they received the right tools.

From there on it's up to my students, how much time they are willing to invest, to make progress. Teaching students at art school was interesting to me in a slightly different way. These young people had already an idea, what they want to focus on, what kind of art they want to create, which is often in it's results far from what i can teach in drawing classes. But I know, that there's a very basic quality about finding the concentration to draw, which helps an artist for whatever the medium of the final work will be.

I approach drawing as a highly intimate moment, freeing the head of any other aspects of a work. To value this mindful moment, the artist just trying to fully understand an object in front of him, is not paid a lot attention to in times of computer - understandably, but I want to preserve what is worth to be preserved.

I taught German in private sessions in New York City. assisted friends and colleges writing letters and other written material in German. As a sight seeing guide in New York I translated walking tours for professional guides into German and gave them the opportunity to take on German tour groups. In group sessions I helped them to train conversational German. These were all sightseeing guides, who had already a basic knowledge of German Language, but wanted to improve their ability to speak correctly and lead groups confidently.

Drawing

I studied in Europe medical illustration and went from there to studying Fine Art with focus on drawing and painting. I taught advanced students as well as beginners, applying different teaching methods - drawing from nature in the most realistic way and as well drawing in an abstract manner by understand the significance of line, form and color in the 2 dimensional space. I like to give encouragement, build confidence and teach drawing and painting as skills achievable to anybody.
Painting

Painting

I studied Art in Europe with focus on drawing and painting. In order to develop my language as a painter, I researched Johannes Itten and Joseph Albers. In my teaching lessons, I always come back to these basics, because I believe, that to know the roles gives breaking the rules a chance to be meaningful. In a time of virtual reality, I also insist on the importance of understanding physical paint with all its potential. I want to encourage my students to be brave in the search of their own style and free themselves from cliches.
