SETON HALL UNIVERSITY SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (Political Science)
I am a fifth-grade public school teacher in an urban school district in Union County. I have been teaching since 2004, and I have taught grades three, four, five and six. If you count substitute teaching, I have taught every grade from one through twelve. I have tutored since 2003 (the year I began as a substitute teacher).
What I love about tutoring is the fact that it is so personal, and one gets to form a bond with the students he/she works with. I have been fortunate to work with numbers of students, often for several years, and I have felt as though they were extensions of my own family. The most rewarding facet about tutoring is when you see that light bulb go off and the student grasps the subject matter. I absolutely love working with children and young adults. My wife and I are blessed to have three beautiful children of our own. Our eldest child is in elementary school. I always view my students through the eyes of a teacher and a parent. This helps me to better understand their needs and challenges.
Prior to my teaching career, I was a full-time journalist and later a public relations executive. I have also freelanced since 1991, so I have a very firm grasp of the writing process and all it entails. Using life experience and classroom experience gives me a unique perspective of this subject.
I thoroughly enjoy what I do. It's so exciting to see students progress and become more enthused about their work. I'm quite positive I can relate to anyone I work with and make a difference. So what do you say? Let's give it a shot - I know nothing but good will come out of it!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
