Sessions College for Professional Design
Berklee College of Music (Other)
I've taught for over 20 years since attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. I've been in bands (Southern Steel, Branches) that have opened concerts for national acts for over 20 years. We've been the opening act for Marshall Tucker, The Outlaws, The Tubes, Dickey Betts, Blackfoot, Mountain, and Foghat. I was an instructor at Big Beat Music Studio and Spotswood Music Academy here in NJ also.
I can teach you how to read drum notation, as well as melodic notation. I can help you learn your favorite songs or various styles/beats of music, such as rock, funk, latin, jazz, fusion, etc.. I can teach you on acoustic or electronic drums. The electronic drums have music to play along to in the brain of the kit, which is very helpful! I was trained on double bass drums at Berklee also, so I can teach you how to play the double bass or double pedal. I can instruct you on all of the snare rudiments and advanced drum fills are my specialty! I can teach you the correct beats and fills from Rush (Neil Peart) to Alecia Keys. Also, from many other bands and specific drummers. I enjoy teaching students, just like my own kids and it makes me proud to see them learn! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts. I studied drums from Gary Chaffee who also taught Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa), Steve Smith (Journey), and Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp). I've been teaching drums for over 20 years at private schools, music stores, and student homes. I can instruct students in various styles, odd/even time signatures, snare rudiments, reading/writing notation, fills and beats, and double bass techniques.
I attended and have a certificate from the Macintosh Learning Center in NY. I've also been working as a graphic artist on a Macintosh for the last 15 years. I currently own an Intel Macbook also. I have a firm understanding of browsers and software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, etc.) for the Mac also. I was a Prepress supervisor at GGS Book Services in Atlantic Highlands for 10 years creating artwork on a Macintosh for McGraw Hill, Prentice Hall, Houghton Mifflin, Meriam Webster, and many more high-end companies. I taught many of my employees how to work on a Mac for years. I can help anyone understand one as well!
