Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

My undergraduate degree is from Seton Hall University in Criminal Justice and Sociology. I have been an Adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice & Sociology Courses. Areas I have covered in Criminal Justice include Law, Juvenile Law, and the development of our Penal System. I was an adjunct at Edna Mahon Correctional Facility for Sociology classes. I have talked about theorists, studied phrenology, endomorphs, ectomorphs, mesomorphs, studied crime rates around the world, and have done comparative studies in crime analysis. I also took a course in Forensics and the collection and analysis of evidence.

Elementary (K-6th)

I possess a Standard Certification in grades K-8 in the State of New Jersey. I have taught Kindergarten and grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. I believe that incorporating a variety of subjects into my lessons such as reading and social studies, math and science, and utilizing writing in all disciplines fosters growth and development. I enjoy utilizing a hands-on approach and manipulatives to assist my students to grasp essential concepts. I employ writing techniques such as RACER and Collins Writing into my lessons. Fostering a love of reading in all subjects contributes to the overall success of my students.

Religion

I have been a social studies teacher for over eleven years. I hold certification in Middle School Social Studies for grades 5-8. In addition I have certification in Social Studies for 9-12. In the 6th grade I taught World & Comparative Religions. We studied all the major religious groups, polytheism, and monotheism. I started with ancient civilizations and their beliefs carrying it through to modern day religious views. We looked at many of the ancient scripts and texts of several religions.

Social Studies

I am certified in Social Studies for both the middle school and high school. My certification includes grades 5-8 content area specialization in Social Studies as well as grades 9-12. I have been a Science & Social Studies teacher for over 12 years. I have been a homebound instructor and tutor through my school district in many areas including: religion, geography, economics, and human behavior.

Sociology

As an Adjunct Professor at Essex County College I taught Sociology and Criminal Justice Courses. My undergraduate degree is in Sociology & Criminal Justice from Seton Hall University. Certified in Social Studies grades 5-12 areas I have covered in Sociology have been human development, social development, social classes, law & deviant behavior. I have covered Margaret Mead, Emile Durkheim, Plato, and others.

Special Needs

I have completed 18 credits of the required 21 credits to earn my Teacher of Student with Disabilities Certification for the State of New Jersey. I am familiar with laws regarding students of special needs. I have written IEP's with members of CST. I am aware of accommodations, goals, and modifications: I can adapt lessons to meet the needs of each individual. I believe that there are multiple ways and approaches that can help a child succeed. Utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and differentiated instruction is a key to every child's success.
