I have been teaching Physics in New Jersey schools for more than 30 years. I retired this last June from full time work and have been teaching part time. During the last 9 months I have taught an SAT II Physics prep course as well as a full Physics preview course at a specialized learning center and am currently teaching Lab Physics and Lab Chemistry at a very small private school. During my last year of full-time teaching I taught 2 different levels of AP Physics C [mechanics and E & M] for which 73% of my students [22 of 30] received a 5, the highest score possible. In addition, I am the author of a course called "Honors Physics" published by Teaching Point which includes all of the content needed by a novice physics teacher.
What I really have to offer that is different from other physics teachers is that I have a full set of physics equipment and materials for teaching a full physics class at any high school level, which is ideal for students being home schooled [for this purpose I am available during the day up until 4:00PM]. I can prepare you for any of the AP Physics exams or for the SAT II Physics achievement test as well as guiding you through a course you may already be struggling with. I am also willing to teach small groups [up to 4 students] for a shared rate.
This July I will be attending a week long workshop regarding the new AP Physics 1 and 2 courses in Denver and I fully expect to be completely up to speed with the new curricula. Small group lessons can be arranged for a discounted rate depending on the number of students.
Jim was immensely helpful in tutoring me for the physical sciences section of the MCAT. I came to him with very little knowledge of physics and spent much of our time together wishing that my physics professors were more like him! He is a patient, dedicated and enthusiastic teacher with a wide array of demonstrations that really help to illustrate and simplify concepts that are otherwise difficult to grasp. He helped me to develop a new found appreciation for a subject that I had previously dismissed as too difficult and abstract, and encouraged an understanding of the concepts beyond simple memorization. I often surprise myself now by how capable I am in physics! He is certainly the best tutor I could have asked for, and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a better understanding of physics.
It is clear that James loves the subject and loves to teach. He conducted a lab as part of the first lesson which made the concept so much easier to learn for my daughter. It is a great start to Physics tutoring.
Mr. K is an excellent tutor. He comes prepared with materials to teach and is very patient with my son. He will go above and beyond to accommodate my son and help him. Thank you Mr. K.
Mr. K is an amazing tutor. He makes time in his schedule to come and work with my son. He will leave only when he is sure my son's doubts are cleared. Thanks so much Mr. K for your dedication.
Mr. K. tutored my son for AP Physics C in both Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism. His hands on demonstrations and guided problem solving are both very helpful, as often teachers in school do not have the time to do these with every student. In addition, he provides great practice materials, including lesson plans from his time teaching and even neat packets of AP free response and multiple choice problems. My son's grade drastically increased thanks to Mr. K. and I would highly recommend him to others who may be struggling with any level of physics.
A very good teacher who not only knows the subject well, but is also able to make the student understand it.
James provided not only knowledge of the subject matter but also lots of encouragement in academic endeavors. It was really above and beyond physics tutoring and I think his thoughtful, supportive words meant more to my daughter than he realized. I highly recommend him.
Mr. K. definitely knows the physics material well. He can clearly and accurately explain difficult concepts so that they can be understood. He can also explain the basis and origin of the laws of physics, as well as their applications. Lessons are not spent covering material as fast as possible, but rather aiming for depth in each topic. Overall, I'd say he's a great tutor.
Jim has an in-depth knowledge in physics. He is very professional and organize. If you are in need of a physics tutor you can’t go wrong with Jim.
James was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject matter. He was pleasant at all times and made physics fun for my daughter. I would highly recommend him to any student. He would come to my house equipped with gadgets for experiments to help explain various concepts and was always prepared. All teachers/ tutors should be so helpful.
James has been working with our son for the past couple of months. He has a tremendous amount of knowledge and is able to break down complex subject matters into easily understandable topics. He has a tremendous amount of energy and a strong desire to see his students succeed. We also want to mention that we are very pleased with James and his tutoring.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
