Bio

I am a tutor with 10+ years of experience and a "growth mindset" attitude. I will teach you and your child the best strategies to overcome their reading, writing, and math challenges. I will use Orton-Gillingham routines and resources, or will suggest other well-researched tools based on your child's strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, I will work with your child to make sure that tutoring is fun! I will use games and projects to ensure that your child is excited to do the hard work...

I will use games and projects to ensure that your child is excited to do the hard work of learning new skills.

I will help to examine which specific areas of math are causing difficulty, and will provide strategies and games to help your child build up the foundational math skills that they are weak in. This might include: memory strategies for fact fluency; visualization strategies for word problems; or using the process of build-draw-write to help your child build numeracy and understand why we "borrow" or "carry" when doing calculations.

I am an avid reader and writer and will bring that joy to share with your child. I will assess your child discuss with you where we will focus in the 5 essential components of reading (phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, or comprehension). We will then use best practices to build up those skills and help your child become an active and self-aware reader who is able to use strategies to problem-solve along the way.

I hold a M.Ed in mild/moderate learning disabilities, focusing intensively on dyslexia, and I have completed comprehensive Orton-Gillingham training. I will use the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education's official OG resource, Recipe for Reading.

I look forward to speaking with you about your child's learning and how additional tutoring will give them the boost they need to become a confident reader, writer, and mathematician.
