##### About Kumar

Hello and welcome parents and students. I have been teaching and tutoring math for many years starting with high school enrichment and prep programs (while in college) and then as a teaching assistant in graduate school and as a paid tutor in business school. I specialize in math for SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT as well as general math topics. Students find math difficult for various reasons; every student is different. In my view math is not just about the right answer or the right trick; it is more about developing the basic concepts and thinking clearly about them. I aim to get the student to understand the basic concepts as simply and clearly so the student is able to extend and apply them effectively to the more difficult problems. It's a beautiful sight to see when a student grasps the concept and is able to successfully apply it; this just makes my day. Students often come to me when they are stuck on a problem or unable to grasp a particular concept. In the end they are able to not only apply the concepts but they are also able to attack the harder (level 5) problems easily.

Professionally I hold a BS, MS (computer engineering), MBA (finance) from Columbia University (all with high distinction) and worked in finance (investments) for nearly 20 years. I led teams of 50-100 people in building the computer models for financial trading and e-commerce. I spent several years working in Asia and Europe where I had to recruit the smartest people in the region and get them performing at their peak. In addition to my basic teaching skills I have spent my professional life mentoring and coaching young professionals to achieve their peak performance. I am very comfortable relating with people from most cultures, especially young adults. At work I have often found that even the smart people are sometimes unable to perform if the environment (a difficult customer or a situation with no options) is not right. At such times I provide coaching and leadership, even just encouraging them to try - and that's the start of solving the problem. I believe that my teaching abilities plus my life leadership lessons make me an effective tutor and help my students gain not just the math skills but also the confidence to tackle hitherto unseen problems.

I am available most afternoons and evenings (see my schedule) and can travel to students' locations in some cases. I am happy to work with students at all levels. Whether you are stuck on a particular problem or unsure about a subject or just preparing for the test, I can help you get better results. So just reach out and let's get started!
