I am a literacy educator with a passion for teaching and learning. I enjoy teaching to the whole person, not just the subjects. My first approach is getting to know the student by asking about aspirations and limitations. Sometimes individuals think they are not capable of excelling because they might have been classified with a learning disability. I use strategies to motivate all students and help them improve their self-worth.
My strengths are reading, writing, English and public speaking. I enjoy tutoring because it enables me to learn the individual's strengths and weaknesses, which help me in preparing specific lessons for each one based upon their learning styles. I am very patient with all learners.
I have been tutoring for over 15 years. I manage an adult literacy program and tutor children in my spare time. Two of my past clients have achieved honor roll status even though they thought they could not have attained such a high level. I believe everyone can learn.
I am a Distinguished Toastmaster with Toastmasters International, and have presented many speeches to diverse audiences. I am also an ESL instructor, a reading, writing, public speaking tutor, and a doctoral scholar. I take learning and teaching very seriously, and enjoy working with dedicated individuals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a literacy educator for children and adults. I use a research based phonics program to help illiterate or struggling readers learn the sounds of the alphabet and how to connect sounds together to make words. I have been tutoring for 23 years and have helped many individuals improve their literacy skills. I have a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training. As a doctoral scholar-practitioner, I have completed over half of the coursework required for an Ed.D with a concentration in Curriculum Instruction.
I have been involved in public speaking professionally since 2007 when I joined a local Toastmasters International club. The organization's educational and leadership programs help individuals improve their communication and leadership skills. I have presented over 40 speeches during club meetings and other Toastmasters' events. My leadership education involved taking the lead on over 27 projects. I have also mentored clubs and individual members. I served as a Division Governor for two years, and Area Governor for one year. In 2013, I achieved the highest level award in Toastmasters when I completed all levels of the educational and leadership programs and became a Distinguished Toastmaster.
