About Bharathi

Hello!

My name is Bharathi S. I graduated from the University of Miami in 2014 with a BS in Architectural Engineering. As a student, I have always been very organized and thorough, and I try to being out those same qualities in the students I tutor. I have tutored college students in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, and I am a Level I CLRA certified tutor. Having held a number of jobs in college, tutoring was definitely the most challenging but also the most fulfilling.

My major had curriculum with a heavy concentration of algebra, geometry, and classical mechanics, so I am very comfortable with tutoring students in those subjects. I am patient and have consistently had good relationships with all of my students. My tutoring style is more focused on understanding the material than finishing a problem set. So, I really try to make my students feel independent and give them space to think for themselves. If a student needs extra assistance beyond the material provided in school, I am willing to assign additional homework or have extra sessions that are more focused on reviewing the material.

I am most experienced with tutoring math students, however, as an IB and college graduate I have very good paper writing and reading comprehension skills. So I am also willing to help students improve their reading, writing, and vocabulary.

I extend WyzAnt's "Good Fit Guarantee" to all of my sessions. You will never be charged for any lesson that you are not completely satisfied with.

Additionally, I constantly check my phone and am more than happy to help with additional questions through text message and/or e-mail.

I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored college students in Algebra I. My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required a lot of Algebra. The most advanced math classes I have taken are Calculus 3 and Differential Equations.

Algebra 2

I have tutored college students in Algebra II. My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required frequent calculations with polynomial functions. inequalities, and logarithmic functions. So I am very comfortable with the material. The most advanced math classes I have taken are Calculus 3 and Differential Equations.

Civil Engineering

I have a BS in Architectural Engineering from the University of Miami. I have a 3.0 GPA. I was a tutor at my college's peer tutor center.

Elementary Math

I have considerable experience working with younger children, ages six and up. I am patient but firm. I try to make them work on their own and if they need help I try to guide their thought process rather than give them the answer.

Geometry

I have tutored college students in Geometry. My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required a lot of applied geometry and physics. Engineering calculations often require calculating vectors, unknown angles, and centroids. Identifying similar triangles is also very useful for simplifying problems. So I am very comfortable with the material because I use it often in my work.

Prealgebra

I have tutored college students in Pre Algebra. My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required a lot of computations with heavy usage of negative numbers, factors, multiples, decimals, and fractions. Pre Algebra covers the fundamental concepts that all other advanced maths rely on. I have taken math classes up to Calculus 3 and Differential Equations so I am very comfortable with working Pre Algebra calculations.

Precalculus

PreCalculus combines Algebra and Trigonometry, preparing students for applying concepts from those courses in Calculus. As an engineering student I have used algebra, trigonometry, and calculus frequently in my calculations and am familiar and comfortable with the material. I have also tutored many college level students in algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.

Reading

I am an avid reader with an expansive vocabulary. I am also patient and give my students plenty of room to think and try to figure things out themselves. Also, I have plenty of suggestions of good books to read for reading levels from kindergarten to college.

SAT Math

I took the SAT in 2010. I got a 740 in Math and a 640 in Reading (overall score 1380). My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required a lot of algebra and geometry. The most advanced math classes I have taken are Calculus 3 and Differential Equations.

Statistics

I have tutored many students in Statistics. I know it can get overwhelming and confusing because there are a lot of terms and concepts to memorize. But they all build on each other and once you see the connections it becomes so much easier. I can help you find those connections and master statistics!

Trigonometry

I have tutored college students in Trigonometry. My major in college (Architectural Engineering) also required manipulating trigonometric equations and applying trigonometric concepts. Engineering calculations often require calculating vectors, unknown angles, and using trigonometric functions to predict possible movement of a building. So I am very comfortable with the material because I use it often in my work.

Vocabulary

As an avid reader and International Baccalaureate Program graduate, I have developed an extensive vocabulary. I have also prepared for the SAT and GRE, so I have tips and tricks to help expand a students vocabulary. I try to focus on word origins and usage of the word in context to make new vocabulary more relatable to existing vocabulary.

Writing

As an International Baccalaureate Program graduate and college graduate, I have researched, written, and put citations in many college level papers. I have good paper editing and citation skills. I am mostly comfortable with MLA but am also familiar with APA.

Definitely Recommended! — Bharathi has been a huuuuge help in helping me with my math class, and honestly I'm understanding a bunch of concepts much better than when the teacher ever taught us. One of the really great things is that she doesn't just solve the problem and quickly run over the steps, but takes the time to write it all out and explain each piece, which also grants me notes to refer to later. We also explore m ...
