I am Emily. I am a Visual Arts teacher on the secondary level. I have been teaching for 9 years at the high school and middle school level. I received my Bachelor's degree and Master's degree, both from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. My degrees are in Fine Arts, Art Therapy, and a Master's in Teaching Art Education. The classes that I have been teaching over these many years range from honors level fine arts, such as drawing and painting, photography, and computer graphics. I teach a basic intro level Computer Graphics course that uses the Adobe Suite software, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I have a great rapport with my students and enjoy seeing the creativity that comes from all of my students.
When I am not teaching, I am an abstract oil painter. I have been painting my whole life, having shown in a few exhibits including one solo show. I have several collectors of my work and continue to work hard at having my work seen by others. I have an exceptional knack for understanding color and form, which makes my work so exciting to me. I have always loved working with people of all ages, and prior to teaching I worked as an Art Therapist. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been drawing since I was a child. I have been a teacher of drawing at the high school and middle school level for eight years. I teach basic to advanced drawing with different mediums such as pencil, charcoal, and pastels. I also teach how to draw in correct proportion and perspective, especially for detailed realistic objects and subject matter.
I currently teach Computer Graphics/graphic design on the high school level, grades 9-12. I have experience designing on my own and have taken graphic design on a college level. I have been teaching my current class, for which I wrote the curriculum for 6 years. I use the Adobe 6 suite software.
