About John

Hello!

My name is John and I am a Columbia University graduate with a B.A. in Computer Science and East Asian History.

I have always had a love for learning that was not bounded by the traditional right-brain vs. left-brain dichotomy and, as my double major might suggest, I enjoy mathematics, the sciences, and the humanities equally. Curiosity and a willingness to learn and share with others are what matter to me most.

I have many years of tutoring experience that I will bring to the table to help my students succeed in school or on standardized tests. My tutoring career began in high school when I tutored middle school students at a local charter school in math and science and continued through college when I helped high school juniors and seniors with their AP coursework and college freshmen with their essays. I have always loved the experience of teaching and helping students thrive in their academic endeavors. Through crafting personalized, effective, and goal-oriented lesson plans, I help my students succeed.

I specialize in tutoring for the SAT and AP courses including Calculus AB/BC, Statistics, U.S. History, European History, World History, English Language/Literature, and Chemistry. I can also help with writing assignments from drafting high school or college essays to researching theses.

I am accepting new students and I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
