New College (Liberal Arts)
I am a Conductor, Composer & Pianist with a broad array of performances in the US and abroad in a wide variety musical genres. I have recently conducted a Mozart opera, an album of progressive jazz for the Mulata label and an evening of contemporary classical music for the Composers Concordance Festival. What you need to know is that I am also an enthusiastic, sympathetic and rigorous teacher who brings that wide range of experience to my students.
I have taught harmony to pop song writers, conducting and composition at the college level, piano and theory to young children and have coached countless opera singers preparing for performances.
Perhaps the most gratifying thing I have done is work with high school age musicians as they prepare for their college education. Students of mine have gotten into programs at MSM, NYU, Rutgers Mason Gross et cet.
-An understanding of music must go hand in hand with technique and craft.
-Eclecticism is good. I have orchestrated Verdi fragments and pop songs, conducted everything from Mozart to Dave Soldier and written music in varying styles. My teaching taps into all of these sources to reach students in an individual way.
-Each student is unique and the teacher must adjust accordingly.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Within the last few years I have received and completed commissions for a one act opera, Golden Fleece NY,NY; a trio at play Princeton, NJ; a songcycle project, Composers Concordance, NY, NY; and a song "What would Izzie Do?" used in the score for the HBO Documentary, "Casting By".
I have spent a lifetime honing the skills a conductor and composer uses most: listening and understanding music as texture and harmony.
As a vocal coach of the operatic repertoire I have found many ways to help singers identify pitch, both as pure interval and part of the harmonic context.
I am entirely at home performing a wide variety of new music with it's myriad complexities of tonal palate and complex rhythms.
I am a composer and conductor who has taught at the college level.
