"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." ~ William Arthur Ward
As a tutor for ten years, I have come across almost every type of student. Regardless of the subject, each student has helped me refine not only my teaching skills but my ability to manage and inspire students. Teaching is a challenge. Each student brings a different set of strengths, weakness, and a unique way of understanding subject matter. When I began tutoring, I thought my job was to demonstrate how to use a formula or help a student memorize a set of facts. This was far from the truth. What I learned was tutoring went far beyond the surface of numbers and words, but guiding and inspiring a student to levels and achievements that only we can see as teachers. My goal as a tutor is not to help a student pass an exam, but create a true learning environment to help them discover passions, accelerate in subject matters, and have fun in the process.
In the past year, I have been especially active in creatively tutoring students and using "out of the box" techniques to drive concepts home. My current students include an Undergraduate student at Pace University in NYC majoring in Finance and Accounting, a Graduate Student at the NYU Stern School of Business, and a high school student focusing on Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and the SAT math section.
I have personally always excelled in Math. In high school, I cruised through Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Pre-Calc, earning an "A" in each subject. In college, my math skills only became more refined, I earned an "A+" in Calculus my freshmen year. From there, I went on to earn my degree in Finance with honors.
After college, I earned my Series 7, Series 3, Series 63, Series 65, Life Insurance License, Health Insurance License, and became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). The CFP is a premier certification that requires 18 months of intensive course work culminated with a 10 hour, 2 day exam testing Insurance Planning, Tax Planning, Estate Planning, Investment Planning, and Retirement Planning.
I have a diverse business background and tutoring resume that makes me an asset to any student. "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." ~ William Arthur Ward

Joe is a financial wiz whom can easily translate very complex problems into an easy to learn method.
Great teacher, very professional and brings real life experiences that are very relevant to the lessons.
Very good at taking complex subjects and breaking them down into easy fun components. Was able to not only know how to solve certain financial problems, but understand the theoretical concepts. Would highly recommend whether you are student of finance or just interested in the subject.
I found Joe N. to be quite professional and proficient in his approach to tutoring, especially complex subjects such a finance. I would highly recommend him to others who are overwhelmed with math-intensive courses.
Joe has been an incredible teacher in terms of helping me understand accounting. Coming from a much different educational background, I was nervous going back to school to take financial accounting courses for work. Joe explained the concepts and made them seem simple. I've done very well under Joe's tutelage and would recommend him to anyone who needs help with the courses he offers.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
