Living a life of service for others has always been my purpose. I decided at a young age that teaching will be the path that I take. After majoring in Elementary Education and Urban Studies in college, I pursued my career in education hoping that I can not only challenge myself but my students as well. Upon graduation, I received my first teaching offer where I served as a classroom teacher for three years at a charter school. Having that job has taught me many strategies to create a comfortable, yet challenging and respectful environment for my scholars to learn.
Despite being a general classroom teacher, I have extended myself in tutoring as well. I provided homework help and extra practice to struggling students after school for one hour sessions. I also came in on Saturdays at school to tutor students in four hour sessions. I have learned that helping others helped me grow as an educator and I am always looking for more opportunities to not only perfect my craft but also to make others feel confident and successful.
