About Rae

I worked at ETS (Educational Testing Service) for many years, so I know a thing or two about testing. I am well-versed in the intricacies of high stakes tests like the Praxis, SAT, and the ACT. I not only know and understand the subject matter, but I know the ins and outs of how to take and beat any test. Knowing how to beat a test is a skill, and when you take the ACT and Praxis tests, the test makers are testing your ability on how well you take a test, not how good a student you are. I am extremely skilled at taking tests, and I want to instill this in my students. Additionally, I am a New Jersey State dual certified general and special education teacher/tutor specializing in test prep skills. I am certified in Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Technology Education. I am currently a Middle School Math and Special Education teacher at a public school in New Jersey. I teach Middle School Mathematics in both a general education classroom and a resource room. I enjoy helping students develop good testing strategies and study skills. Currently, I am a PARCC Test Administrator/Technology Coordinator. As part of my job. I teach testing strategies to the entire school. and train the staff on how to help their students succeed on the PARCC test, My primary and only goal is to have my students PASS THE TEST! I also have certifications in middle school mathematics, middle school language arts and literacy (LAL), and middle school social studies. Special education and Technology Education, I recently received my ESL/Bilingual endorsement from Rowan College, College of Graduate and Continuing Education which enables me to teach bi-cultural and ESL classes.

In essence, I have been teaching others all of my life. I was in gifted and talented and honors classes throughout my school career, and have helped other students with reading and mathematics since I was in first grade. In high school, I served as a peer leader, tutor, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. In my classroom, I prepare my students for the PARCC, and have developed many strategies that I use with them as well. I have also tutored many students (including my own children) for the SAT. Additionally, I have a graduate degree in computer science, and I am an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). I worked for many years as a lead systems engineer working on travel and resort systems, while managing an international staff. In this capacity, I wrote many complicated reports, proposals, and assorted technical documents using the Microsoft Office suite.

I can offer your child my experience in how to be successful at learning, regardless of their ability. I work with all different levels of students, and use many different strategies to reach all of them. I have mostly worked in the K-8 age group. I am currently working with many economically disadvantaged children who are recent immigrants to this country, and it is challenging but rewarding. With my heavy technology background, I am able to easily learn all and any technology and use it as a tool, and to enhance lessons. In the classroom, I use the smart board as a method to engage visual learners as well as those students who learn better using multiple media. There are also many wonderful educational programs on the iPad that I use when I work one-on-one with students. I also love to work with small groups in intense learning settings.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I tutor many students in math for subjects such as Algebra 1, 2 and Geometry. I have a heavy technology and math background and currently teach Algebra 2 and Geometry in a high school setting. Writing

This is an excerpt of a letter I wrote for a teacher education program:

Dear xx,

I am a recent graduate of a teacher education program. Before I embarked on my recent journey to becoming a teacher, I was a systems engineer for many years. I just received three teaching certifications (elementary K-6, Middle school Language Arts and Literature 5-8, and Teacher of the handicapped, with another on the way (Middle School Social Studies 5-8). As such, I see a great need to be able to help the growing population of English Language Learners. I speak Spanish on a literate level, and wish to become fluent. My family has Hispanic heritage, and I would really like to reach this growing population of students by getting certified in Bilingual/Bicultural education.

I assure you that to get two master's degrees you need to know how to write.

Great Praxis Tutor!

Rae was a great tutor for the Elementary Praxis and helped me feel a lot more confident taking a standardized test. I have never been tutored before and I was very hesitant to do so. However, she prepared me with many testing materials including flash cards, practice quizzes, and facts. She is very knowledgeable about the Praxis subjects and provided a lot of her own knowledge into the tutoring se
