St. John's University (Communication Arts)
I have been a tutor and instructor for the past 15 years throughout Europe and the United States. I am an environmental instructor specializing in organic farming methods/practices and recycling programs for The Boys & Girls Clubs and elementary school children throughout Athens Greece; a College Instructor at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ; Environmental Investigative Journalist and professional writer and content editor -- internationally. I have a BA in Communication Arts and English from Saint John's University, Queens, NY, and have studied Environmental Science at South Eastern University, Athens Greece.
I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and have lived in Athens, Greece, Parma, Italy and Cyprus. I speak fluent Greek, intermediate Italian and Spanish. I love teaching, tutoring and learning. My greatest joy comes from helping people to help themselves. Tutoring is one of the best ways to offer my skills to those who want to improve their lives by sharpening their skills through greater knowledge and understanding.
I am a patient, experienced English tutor who understands the importance of Imagination, Interaction, Independent thinking, and Imagination. A tutor who is imaginative can do wonders with her student. New ideas break the monotony and encourage students to take a more active participation.
Despite our modern reliance on computer keyboards, the ability to write in a clear and legible style is still vitally important in our society. I always emphasize the importance of "neat" handwriting, and assist youngsters through careful observation their writing, and their various handwriting strengths and weaknesses.
Because I am essentially academic coaches, I can play a major motivating role in the life of my student. Like other school coaches, tutors become role models for students. As a tutors I provide a motivating influence when classroom teachers and parents struggle to reach their students. Please feel free to contact me for more information on me and to schedule lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
