Hello! I am currently a teaching assistant in Hoboken and I am looking to begin in the highly exciting field of tutoring. I have three years experience in the school system with stints in both Paterson, NJ and Brooklyn, NY. While many would believe that one person can only have one specialty subject in school, I am offering my tutoring services for multiple subjects including English, History and even some sports help for those who are trying to make the team.
My tutoring/teaching style is one of excitement and upbeat energy. I don't believe in just sitting down in a chair and just going over lessons. My job is to make sure that someone just doesn't remember information. I want them to retain information and have it stored in their head for a long time. I will do everything in my power to make sure that the person I am tutoring will learn but also have fun while doing it. That is my guarantee to you. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience in English goes back to my elementary school days where I began writing short stories and entering them in contests. I attended an arts high school where my major was Creative Writing for all four years. English I believe encompasses not just reading and writing skills, but also the skill to read a passage and figure out a way to apply to you and your situation. That is the best way for someone to understand and comprehend a reading.
I have been teaching for about four years. While I have taught many subjects, the one that I have a love for is government. I have taught Grades 5-12 history (everything from who the president is to U.S. Constitution to the make-up and function of Congress) and have even briefly worked for a local councilman so I even have an inside view of how government and politics work. I love teaching government and it is something that I enjoy teaching to others.
