Hello, I am a teacher with 4 years of experience as an elementary school bilingual Spanish teacher in New York City (the Bronx). I hold a Masters of Art in Teaching and am a licensed teacher in New York, New Jersey and California. I also have 2 summers worth of experience with middle school students in a summer school program. I love being a teacher, but have decided to stay at home with my children. During this time, I am still interested in interacting with students, which is why I would love to tutor when I can.
I am willing to help with Spanish, English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies in the K-8 range. With experience as a teacher in a bilingual Spanish classroom (in both grades 2 and 3), I have encountered students new to this country with varying levels of literacy skills. Therefore, I have ample experience teaching phonics in both English and Spanish through centers, guided reading and word study. For students with little or no literacy skills in their native language of Spanish, I began with phonics in Spanish. For students who had a foundation in Spanish, I taught them English phonics.
