About Emily

I am a young, energetic licensed middle school math teacher who works well with kids and teenagers, including those with Autism. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching and have extensive training in the Common Core math standards for grades K-12. My ultimate goal is to help my students understand math in the way that makes sense to them, so I connect math concepts to their individual interests. I can help with classwork and homework and give additional skill practice if requested, through Calc 2. Excellent references available upon request. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I taught Algebra 1 for two years using the Common Core State Standards for math.

Algebra 2

I have experience tutoring algebra 2 and higher level math classes. I am certified to teach high school math so I understand the course requirements and state standards for this course.

Elementary Math

I have tutored multiple elementary and secondary students. I make learning fun and use a variety of methods to find the one that works the best for your child. I like to incorporate their interests in the math curriculum and therefore make learning memorable and meaningful.

Geometry

I have tutored numerous students in geometry with great success. I am highly qualified in New Jersey to teach high school math, which includes geometry. I enjoy geometry and like building models and using online software to make the material more tangible.

Prealgebra

I have taught prealgebra for the past 5 years to 7th and 8th graders. This is the most important math class your child will take, as it includes all of the fundamental skills that they will use in high school! I love this subject and enjoy helping students master the material.

Precalculus

I have tutored precalculus students in the past and I am currently a licensed teacher certified in K-12 math which includes this course. This is one of my favorite classes to tutor.

Proofreading

I have an undergraduate degree in linguistics, which is the structure and use of language. I have taken many grammar courses in college and have experience proof reading and editing masters level research papers.

Writing

I have a degree in linguistics and I am a skilled writer. I can help with writing skills, grammar, research, organization, and coherence.
