Also, for the last few years, I've been preparing students for the ACT and SAT, including all the math and science covered on those tests. I'll show you how to analyze the tests to recognize the surprisingly limited range of skills and question types covered, boosting your confidence and your score. I'm excited to help you get your best grades ever!

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I regularly give presentations to groups of one hundred or more people, designed to educate and motivate. In preparation for these presentations, I have studied several books on public speaking and I have been enrolled in a continuing public speaking course for well over a decade. As an English teacher, I have also assisted dozens of students to conquer their fears and become more confident, effective public speakers. I can show you how to use notes rather than a manuscript to develop a more natural, extemporaneous style. I can provide you with guidelines on posture, breathing, and gestures to help you relax and convey your thoughts with appropriate force and clarity. Also, I can show you how to organize your thoughts and use introductory and summary sentences to control the logical flow of the presentation and enhance comprehensibility.

I have continued to tutor students in Latin, while translating ancient texts in my spare time to keep up my skills and for my own enjoyment.

Extremely patient tutor!

Matt worked with my son and patiently asked him the right questions to help guide his thinking. As the session progressed, my son stared to find his own voice. Excellent tutor.

Very Knowledgeable and kind.

My son was working on absolute value, order of operation, and Matt was very knowledgeable and patient and took time to make sure my son understood the problems and now he is able to solve the problems on his own.

Knowledgeable and considerate tutor!

Matthew has been tutoring my daughter the last 2 weeks. So far my daughter is very happy with his tutoring. She had many SAT tutors in the past but Matthew is one of the best tutors. He is very considerate and put his heart to tutor my daughter. I am saying this because my daughter's past tutors either did not know what they were doing or not fit tutors for any students. I highly recommend Matthew to parents who are looking for an excellent and ethical tutor. Thank you so much Matthew for tutoring my daughter. Thanks again!

You won't find a better tutor!

My son has been tutored by Matt for at least 6 years. He has not only helped my son appreciate the classics when it came to book selection, but he has also taught my son how to write an essay, a journalism article, a term paper..... Matt's patient and encouraging manner gave my son the confidence to take honors classes and get A's in every one of them. Matt is a true mentor. He will likely, and quite literally, be the most knowledgeable person you will ever meet. He has read most books numerous times, and is able to give a detailed backstory about the books and authors. This keeps the tutoring sessions very interesting, and teaches things way beyond the scope of the books. Matt is well educated, and it is quite obvious, but not all well educated people can truly "teach" others. Matt is truly exceptional in this regard. If your son or daughter is a willing student, Matt is the best tutor you can hope to find. (Matt also helped my son with pre-calculus!)

encouraging tutor

Mathew is exactly what we were looking for in a tutor. His knowledge of multiple subjects is extremely helpful to the SAT. I think we are heading in the correct direction for higher scores.

Great Tutor

Matthew was a really great tutor. He taught me how to actively read and look for clues. Matthew helped me most with the reading passages.

Simran, 6 lessons with Matthew

Patient

I can see with Matt's tutoring Kia is trying to do his best. He is slowing down instead of rushing to get through the lesson so he can get on to other things.
