About Lynford

As a tutor in the creative arts, I teach and coach in photography, writing, and marketing.

I help the emerging and enthusiast photographer take great pictures. I help entrepreneurs and professional communicators create social media and marketing campaigns to build stronger brands. I help aspiring writers use the written word to inspire and motivate.

Like a sports, business or life coach, my role is to help you tap into your own creative genius. I provide technical instruction, instant feedback, and maybe some inspiration along the way. I don't bring a whistle. I travel with the experience from a lifetime of photography and 20-year career as a public relations and marketing professional.

Here is what you can expect with every class:

• We start with the principles. There will always be a formal lesson plan and discussion.
• Learn by doing. You get to practice right away. There's no better way to tell if understand the principles than by trying them yourself.
• On-the-spot coaching. This is where the real learning occurs. Try the techniques and have a professional guide you to the next level of proficiency.
• References to reinforce. You get an e-book after every class, reinforcing the lesson.

No matter what class I teach, I am motivated by certain truths:

• We all learn. At the end of the day, you are here to learn. I will pour my entire being into making sure we reach our true potential.
• We love to create. It is infused into the way I teach and coach. It is what fuels me during every class I teach. If I sense you love your craft as much as I do, we create an energy that propels us both to do more than we would have imagined alone.
• We have fun. This isn't a boring classroom. We get to personalize and structure our time together. Let's make it fun!

About my education and training:

I am a second generation photographer and a career marketing and public relations professional.

I earned a B.A. degree with a double emphasis in public relations and photojournalism.

I spent eight years as an Army photojournalist. In 2010, I founded a business that teaches photography to beginners and enthusiasts. In that time, I have literally taught thousands of photographers, with 98 percent of surveyed attendees saying that were very satisfied with the class.

During my career, I worked for more than 20 years in government and corporate communications, earning several awards for the quality of my work.

After leaving corporate work in 2010, I have consulted with fortune 500, nonprofit, and government clients on PR and communications issues.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Macintosh

I have been a Macintosh user since the 1980s.

I am fluent on every operating system of Mac, as well as the mobile OS platforms.

Marketing

I am a career marketing and public relations professional. I earned a B.A. degree with a double emphasis in public relations and photojournalism.

Since then, I worked for more than 20 years in government and corporate communications, earning several awards for the quality of my work.

After leaving corporate work in 2010, I have consulted with fortune 500, nonprofit, and government clients on PR and communications issues.

Photography

I am a second generation photographer. I earned a B.A. in Photojournalism. After that, I spent eight years as an Army photojournalist. In 2010, I founded a business that teaches photography to beginners and enthusiasts. In that time, I have literally taught thousands of photographers, with 98 percent of surveyed attendees saying that were very satisfied with the class. I have been blogging and podcasting on photography topics for four years.

Public Speaking

I learned public speaking as part of my communications degree.

My work as a professional communicator required me to serve as a public spokesperson for several organizations, some worth up to $8 billion and give presentations on behalf of companies.

From the photography coaching and photo tour company I founded, I gave weekly workshops and presentations. My marketing strategy to promote the business led me to lead public webinars and podcasts.

I was also a successful member of Toastmasters International, rising to the level of Able Toastmaster and winning Toastmaster of the year for our local chapter.
