University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Broadcast Journalism)
Hello there. My name is Dillon H. I tutored throughout my college career (all four years) at a local school and it remains the best job I've ever had- and so, I'd like to do it more. I am a Mensa member. I have an IQ of 140 and a eidetic memory, and I was always "the brilliant but lazy" student in school. I'd like to think this makes me qualified to motivate students of similar prerogative to become brilliant but hardworking. I've taken 14+ years of piano (always enjoyed composing more than practicing my teacher's homework), was nominated to be tutor of the year at my college's tutoring program (and more importantly was my school's favorite tutor), and am at the end of the day, just someone who loves helping people who realize that a desire to learn is the most important quality to attain in life- or help them realize it. Thanks for reading! Looking forward to meeting you. -Dillon

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a member of the Chess team all four years of school (Byron High School, Coach Mike McHale). I have competed recreationally and in minor tournaments throughout college and to this day. I am familiar with all rules (stales, castles, en passants) and most common openings/defenses (Sicilian, French, Caro-Kahn).
I tutored inner-city middle schoolers my entire college career, and occasionally 5th graders. I have received glowing recommendations for my gentile and patient tutoring and was nominated for tutor of the year and my students' favorite tutor, etc. I took AP/Honors English throughout school and am a broadcast journalism major with several communication/speech therapy classes in college.
I have had 14+ years piano lessons, 6+ years concert and marching band. I have familiarity with both Classical-Romantic works (from Hayden to Grieg), popular songs (for the more uninterested students), knowledge of all musical notation, forms, and genres. My work samples are available upon request.
I have had 14+ years piano lessons under four teachers. I have a fair repertoire of memorized songs and strong play-by-ear capabilities, extensive composition experience, knowledge of all piano notation and genres. I have a gentle, patient, and fun tutoring methodology that gets the student wanting to learn for learning's sake (the goal of any competent educator). Samples are available upon request.
I have had 8+ years acting in school plays and community theatre. I took several theatre courses in college, and participated in theatre and film extracurricular clubs. I was a professional stage and screen actor in Los Angeles for 2 years. I've read books on acting from Stanislavsky and Borislavsky (Acting- The First Six Lessons, greatest acting book of all time) to Meisner/Stella Adler. My full acting resume is available upon request.
