I have been tutoring and teaching ESL for over 25 years. I went into teaching inspired by a deep feeling of love and respect for knowledge, following the example of wonderful teachers that had made a difference in my life. My goal is to make my students’ learning process an experience free of anxiety and full of the joy of discovery. Since my area of expertise is second language acquisition, this learning experience must also be closely related to the new culture and environment. Students must understand that the learning experience is related and relevant to their daily lives.
My teaching is, therefore, driven by the student’s level of proficiency, cultural awareness and academic needs. The curricular framework must be rooted in their needs in order to make it relevant, enjoyable and productive. Students must end each lesson with a sense of accomplishment, a positive outlook and evidence of growth.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
