Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballroom Dancing

Professional Argentine tango dancer and former U.S. Argentine tango champion.

Having learnt Argentine tango with my maternal grandparents at a very young age, I have been dancing Argentine tango since I was a child. Originally, I started with a style called canyengue (which is no longer danced anywhere, not even in Buenos Aires) progressing to salon and milonguero styles.

Studied with the best tango dancers of Buenos Aires (many of them already deceased). I have many years of experience teaching, performing, and taxi-dancing in the New York, and New Jersey, tri-state area.

Calculus

I am an engineer with many years of experience in the field applying mathematics to complex problems. I have many years of experience tutoring high-school and college students in calculus and differential equations. I have a high success ratio in my ability to pass on knowledge, making my students understand the material quickly and easily.

ESL/ESOL

I have 30 years of experience tutoring ESL students. I have been doing this since my high-school years and it is something which I have continued to do through my college years up until now. I speak six (6) languages; therefore, I am able to introduce my students to the language (at first) in a manner in which makes the best sense for them to assimilate it.

My experience tutoring ESL to students from all over the world has taught me to learn first how my student learns (the way in which language is processed in their native grammar) and to find a way in which to associate the English language using their native grammar without giving-up the English grammatical structure of the material which I present to them.

All this helps my students achieve their goals in a manner suited to their needs and master the language's concepts at a much faster rate and succeed in their every day lives.

General Computer

I have been working with computers since 1986. Starting with MS DOS (Disk Operating System) and moving onto programming, starting with BASIC (Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) and continuing with Pascal, Turbo Pascal 3.0, Turbo Pascal 4.0, Turbo Pascal 5.0 (which included Object Oriented Programming support), C/C++, UNIX (batch jobs, CRON jobs), BASH Shell, Korn Shell, COBOL, Assembly Language for IBM PC/XT/AT. MS Windows, MS Windows 95, MS Windows 98, MS Windows 2000, MS Windows NT, MS Windows XP, MS Windows Vista. Objective-C, Swift, iPhone/iPad/iWatch/iOS Programming.

Handwriting

I was raised in a family in which everyone attended the same school which emphasized cursive hand-writing since kindergarten.

I have many years of experience teaching and aiding in the teaching of cursive hand-writing to many grammar school children as well as high-school and college students who have wanted to improve their hand-writing.

Japanese

Involved in Japanese culture and language since college. Excellent knowledge of hiragana, katakana and kanji (2,000 kanji characters and increasing knowledge) Currently at N3 level of Japanese. Constantly travel to Japan.

Precalculus

I am an engineer with many years of experience in the field applying mathematics to complex problems. I have many years of experience tutoring high-school and college students in basic mathematics, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus and differential equations. I have a high success ratio in my ability to pass-on knowledge, making my students understand the material quickly and easily.

Spanish

Native speaker of Spanish with many years of experience tutoring high-school and college students in Spanish. Well-travelled in the Americas and know the intricacies of the different regionalisms in speech as well as standard forms.

SQL

Many years of experience developing and architecting databases (queries, views, stored procedures, functions, cursors, rules) in many different flavors of SQL language (MySQL, NoSQL, PL/SQL, SQLite, T-SQL, etc) for major database management systems (MS SQL Server, MS Access, Oracle is different capacities such as reporting (Crystal Reports, IQ Objects, Cognos Impromptu, TM1), Business Intelligence (multidimentional data cubes, multidimensional queries and reporting)

Swimming

Former competitive swimmer (high-school and college) as well as a former certified life-guard. Many years of experience privately coaching competitive high-school swimmers.

Tango

Professional Argentine tango dancer and former U.S. Argentine tango champion.

Having learnt Argentine tango with my maternal grandparents at a very young age, I have been dancing Argentine tango since I was a child. Originally, I started with a style called canyengue (which is no longer danced anywhere, not even in Buenos Aires) progressing to salon and milonguero styles.

Studied with the best tango dancers of Buenos Aires (many of them already deceased). I have many years of experience teaching, performing, and taxi-dancing in the New York, and New Jersey, tri-state area.

Web Design

I have been developing websites since the web began to open-up to the general public back in 1993. Back then, it was only HTML-based websites.

My experience with Web Design continued with dynamic webpages which, at first, were done by implementing PERL in the background and, later, by embedding JavaScript and VBScript once these two (2) scripting languages became available.

Through all that, I also incorporated CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) when this last piece of the puzzle became available.

My Web Design experience incorporates not just the plain use of all these three (3) inter-related technologies but also crafting each webpage to be compatible with each of the major browsers which, at first, was Netscape, followed-up by IE (Internet Explorer) and ultimately, but everyone else (Opera, Firefox, Google Chrome).

His Session made a significant difference.

Spending time with his Spanish tutor, Johnny, provided my son with a significantly better understanding of the material that will be covered on his Spanish 3 final exam. That was exactly what I had hoped for. As a mom, I am extremely pleased with the outcome of their sessions together.
