About Ricardo

I have personally tutored everything from Elementary Ed. to Advanced Calculus and everything in between. I also have experience teaching to the SAT and AP courses. Scores on my exams and in university reflect my understanding and ability to convey not only the test subjects, but test strategies. For instance, I scored in the top 15% nationally on the exit exams for mathematics and I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Mathematics. I have access to a myriad of resources in Geometry, Algebra and Calculus and any other math course offered in high schools.

In college, I quickly learned that success could not be gained by passively listening to lectures in class. As a result, I took a lot of online courses and learned topics on my own. My success was due to academic independence and I try to impart this independence onto my students.

My style of teaching is simple and effective. The best way to learn is to teach others. Rather than memorizing, I have students explain topics and problems to me in detail as though they are teaching me the subject. When checking work, I allow students to explain their answers. This process allows them to discover their errors and allows me to assess any misunderstandings they may have. Work is specifically given to my students based on their learning needs. I also make sure to give strategies for time management and studying as well as resources for them to help educate themselves. These practices combine to enhance understanding and provide new ways to study for success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutored in university and privately for many years in every undergraduate Math topic. I have a complete head to toe mastery of Algebra, as it's used in all levels of Mathematics.

Algebra 2

Algebra II is often a challenging topic for students because it is the transitional piece from "basic" math to "advanced". As an undergraduate in mathematics all algebra II topics rear themselves again and again in Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics and so on. Because of this I have a great understanding and a multitude of practice. I have also taught it from many ranges: standard, academic, and accelerated.

I have extensively independently studied nutrition, exercise/fitness (particularly with resistance, and stretching). I was also the president of my high school's weightlifting club (for 3 years), to which our club helped train a member to 2nd in the state for his weight-class (in power-lifting).

I have been tutoring all types of Mathematics since I was a sophomore in college. I tutored privately for many ranges of Math as well as many ages. On my exit exam for Mathematics, my highest scores of which were in Calculus, I placed in the top 15% in the country. I feel I can help any student with any Mathematical topic. And I have completed a Bachelor's in Mathematics.

Martial Arts

I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, have three years of Varsity Wrestling experience, and have the equivalent of a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu currently (am studying).

I have extensive knowledge in the areas of diet and exercise, and have even conducted research and experimentation on particular diets (particularly psychotropics and their affect on the human brain). I also have received A's in all exercise or nutrition related courses I've taken.

I have a grand slam score in all areas of the Praxis I, as well as a a great understanding in its Math segment as I am a Math major. Also it is practically a copy of the SAT, of which I have tutored and taken to great success.

I have a deep and well versed understanding in most areas math, as I practice it daily, am a JMT, and have completed a Bachelor's in Mathematics.

Precalculus is the backbone of Calculus and introduces students to many topics including Matrix Algebra. I have an excellent understanding of this course because it's referenced and used repeatedly in all the math courses after it.

SAT Math

I scored in the top 15% nationally in the my exit exam for Undergraduate Math. I feel prepared to teach any material from the SAT math. The SAT math portion covers all topics up to Algebra II, all of which I am well acquainted. I have also completed a Bachelor's in Mathematics.

Trigonometry is a bread and butter of mine. It combines all the pieces of Math I enjoy most because it requires analysis as well as logical understandings of shapes.
