When I was younger (Still young, but a while back), I was a student who struggled in school. I was placed in special education and struggled through school. It made school a challenge, but I continued to work on myself and I successfully moved onto mainstream.

When I was younger (Still young, but a while back), I was a student who struggled in school. I was placed in special education and struggled through school. It made school a challenge, but I continued to work on myself and I successfully moved onto mainstream.

As I grew older, I realized I wanted to give back to children who struggled the way I struggled. I initially wanted to become a physical education/health teacher, but I realized I also had a knack for teaching elementary students. I became certified to teach elementary school, while also being certified to teach Physical education and Health. It is a unique combination that has led me fuse both styles to create an active, hands-on learning style.

My experiences include:
Kindergarten teacher
First grade teacher
Physical Education teacher (grades 1,2).

My strengths as a teacher/tutor include teaching reading, writing and science.

I am also great at teaching students with special needs (ADHD, autism, etc.) I am very patient and very understanding (of course I have to be, since I was also like that as a child.)

I look forward to being able to tutor your child and teach them how to become better learners and have more confidence in themselves.

I am great with number and facts.

My college work included a lot of science work.

When I was teaching first grade in Virginia, I taught a population of students that were well below grade level. The school had rigorous standards and training for its staff. I am equipped to be able to pass on reading strategies to students so that they can become independent readers.

I am very patient and I have taught several ADHD students.

If you have any question, feel free to contact me.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach all subject areas K-6. I have experience teaching first grade and Kindergarten. With reading, I was trained in a rigorous program by reading specialist Jan Richardson. The focus of this reading program trains teachers to give students the tools so that they can be independent readers and giving students strategies to utilize to figure out how to read. For writing, I was trained in writing workshop which is a program that emphasizes working on a needed area for writing, and teaching a short "mini" lesson on it. Then students apply what they learn by writing about a topic that interests them. For math, I frequently attended workshops to improve my teaching practices. Lecture are boring for elementary students. Hands-on learning such as using manipulatives (cubes, charts, etc.) is the way most elementary teachers go these days.
