About Alex

Hi Guys! I'm one of the most qualified SAT/ACT tutors out there, and my students say that I'm nice and fun to work with.

I've tutored students in more than 40 Countries, and gotten students into every top college. In addition to tutoring, I own a company that offers SAT and ACT prep classes directly to high schools.

My students have achieved an average an average score increase of 3 points on the ACT and 150 points on the SAT after 18 hours of tutoring.

Some of my biggest success stories:
I tutored a 6th grader to a perfect score on practice SAT math sections. I helped a student from India go from a 20 to a 30 on the ACT.

I worked for 3 years at the world's most elite tutoring company, where people paid up to $200 an hour for my tutoring services. I study the SAT and ACT very deeply so that I can teach you every trick that you'll need to know. I pride myself on being well updated on recent changes to both tests. I specialize in working with students who want to reach for the stars.

My wife and I both stay home with our four kids, and 8 pets. Don't worry, we feed most of them the same food (crickets!).

When it comes to test prep, I'm about getting you measurable results. I am in love with the idea of helping students to get into their dream college. Your dreams are my dreams.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

With my clients, I've shown an exceptional ability to boost ACT English scores. In fact, I believe English is the easiest ACT subject to improve upon, because it consists of concepts that we don't encounter in school or everyday life, and the test questions are written based on mistakes that are acceptable in everyday life. In other words, there's no reason to know these things unless you're studying for a prep test, and once you know them, you can simply look out for them on tests. Success in English comes from being able to shift quickly between grammar considerations and main-idea-based considerations; surprisingly, the main-idea based questions are the ones that students miss more often, because they're not looking out for them.

ACT Math

Math is my natural talent and is the reason I got into tutoring in the first place. I started at Yale University at 16 years of age, and the main reason I got there is because of my math performance on the SAT. I pride myself on being on the cutting edge of new developments in math on both tests, and regularly compose instructional videos for SAT and ACT math for use with my students and for use as a free resource on Youtube. Before expanding my Youtube operation, my SAT math Youtube page had more than 350 subscribers and 21,000 views.

ACT Reading

It has taken me many years to develop some incredibly powerful teaching strategies on the ACT reading section. The ACT has a certain style, and a great reader, if unaware of that style, can still struggle on this test; at least 37 of the 40 questions can be answered simply by locating quotes throughout the passage that answer each of those particular questions. Scanning quickly through the passage requires some getting used to, but is incredibly easy to do once you're used to it (you don't have to be an amazing reader to do this... remember, you've been reading almost your whole life). The true difficulty lies in adopting practices that allow you to have enough time to utilize this method to its fullest extent.

SAT Math

Math is my specialty -- as I mentioned when discussing ACT Math, I am a highly specialized test prep math teacher with an instructional Youtube page that has more than 350 subscribers and 21,000 views. More importantly, I have been an intense student of the redesigned SAT math sections since the inception of the new test, and I can share with you cutting-edge insights into the tests that even many of the prep books haven't yet caught up with. For example, many don't realize that a graphing calculator is absolutely essential, because it's an advantage that places you above students who don't have one, and because the SAT calculator section throws lots of big numbers at you within a single problem; the student who has to write these numbers down and continually re-enter them into his or her calculator is at a severe disadvantage. On other high-level math concepts, such as logarithms, permutations, rational equations, and imaginary numbers, I have developed tricks over the years that make each of these subjects so much easier, and I've done all of the real work so that you don't have to.

SAT Reading

Being a tutor who focuses ONLY on SAT and ACT, I have studied every aspect of the new SAT, including reading, so that I can develop insights into the section that can allow you to have an edge over the competition; I regularly lecture on these insights to groups of 25 or even 60 students at once. When you compare the new SAT to the old SAT or even the ACT reading section, what you'll notice is that the reading comprehension level being presented is much higher, more sophisticated, and more intimidating. What I teach students is the ultimate surprise: while this new test might make you feel like the key is to read more slowly and thoroughly, the opposite is actually true. The more complex the style of writing, the more you should breeze through it, ignoring minor details and focusing instead on big ideas, which is what the grand majority of the questions will be about (realizing the truth of what I'm saying has de-stressed countless high school students, and I'm hoping you'll be one of them).

Great ACT review — My son stated that Alex explains everything very clearly. His tricks like how many you have to get right for your target score instead trying to finish the text was great! He gives a lot of HW so my son is practicing daily. We also like that he gives rules and records the session so he can listen again. ...
