Currently, I teach 24 second grade students, however, I have experience working with children of various grades, needs, levels, and abilities. I have experience with writer’s workshop, guided reading, differentiated instruction, reciprocal teaching, everyday mathematics, teaching students with special needs, etc. I aim to create an individualized, caring, yet challenging learning environment where every child can achieve excellence. I believe that every child learns differently and that it is the role of the educator to provide children with the proper accommodations to meet their learning needs. I incorporate visual aids, games, songs, hands-on activities, and books into my lessons whenever possible. I am constantly researching and learning new ways to become a more effective teacher. My primary goal as a teacher is that each child receives a first-rate education and acquires the necessary knowledge to be successful.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a certificate of eligibility with advanced standing in grades K-5. In addition, I have been teaching all subject areas in a second grade classroom for three years. Prior to my current position I worked as a substitute teacher for a year with students in grades Pre-K-6. Furthermore, I have experience teaching remedial math and language arts to a small group of students.
I have been teaching mathematics to elementary students for over three years. In addition, I have taught a remedial math program to struggling students after school. I use manipulatives and games to teach math when possible.
I am currently studying English as a Second Language in graduate school. In addition, I have three years of experience working with English Language Learners.
I am experienced in guided reading and using reciprocal teaching to improve a child's reading level, decoding skills, and fluency rate. In addition, I am experienced in teaching students reading comprehension skills, identifying the main idea and details, making connections, making predictions, and questioning strategies.
Spanish has been my second language since I was a small child. In addition, I took four years of Spanish in high school. I am able to speak, read, and write in Spanish.
I have been teaching students spelling for three years. I teach students various spelling strategies and patterns through mini lessons.
I use various approaches to helping students with their study skills, which include, but are not limited to, creating flash cards, teaching students how to focus on important information, and quizzing students prior to a test. In addition, I teach students good study habits, such as minimizing distractions, note-taking skills, color coding, and time management.
I ran two years of track and field in high school. After high school, I ran various 5k and 10k races. In addition, I have trained and completed two half marathons. I am an avid runner who is very knowledgeable in the sport.
I have been teaching writer's workshop for three years. I am experienced with teaching writing to large groups and individuals.
