My love of teaching comes from a desire to help others feel great about themselves. I take great pride in convincing students they are good in math and they are good in ELA. Everyone can do grade level or higher work when they have the necessary skills and guidance. Most of all, students need to work in a non-judgmental atmosphere where they are free to ask questions and show their weaknesses. When obstacles are removed, students begin to learn and show progress in class assignments and standardized tests. These stepping stones to success will help your child succeed in all areas!
I specialize in tutoring math and English for K-8. I am a certified, highly qualified middle school math teacher and a published author of young adult fiction novels. I have also have extensive experience in editing, thesis writing and resume building.
I welcome the opportunity to design a customized approach for your child's educational needs which will identify weak areas, create an action plan, and track progress. Working together in a positive environment, your child will feel responsible for their own success and gain long-lasting confidence in their academic abilities.
My love of math comes from a passion for solving puzzles. I appreciate the many and often endless methods for approaching a problem. My success is understanding how students think and working with their methods as opposed to dictating a 'correct' method of solving a problem.
All students can be successful in math if they are allowed to learn the basic skills and master the standards. Choosing methods to solve problems then becomes a game similar to any computer game strategy children master effortlessly. When students feel empowered to solve problems working with their skills instead of copying a teacher's rigid set of directions, they gain confidence in their own abilities and are willing to stick to problems leading to success.
I am available from 4pm-8pm Monday through Friday, and daily from 9am-4pm on weekends. I can travel to meet students or work with them online. My base rate is $50/hour, and I also provide lesson packages at a discount - contact me for more details!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
