Many years as an award winning librarian and ESL teacher/volunteer have given me the skills necessary to tutor both native born students who need to polish their English skills in speaking, reading, and writing, and non-native born students who need help to begin or advance with their English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Patience, perseverance, and positivity make me someone who will help you through class assignments, writing, editing and whatever you need to excel in school, work, and life.
Having been a librarian in a small public library, I am equally comfortable working with children and adults. I am an ace at research skills and will help you thrive in online research.
I can help develop a love of books and reading in your child with recommendations to the best in children's literature - both classic and current.
I can help any adult work at becoming more proficient in English - reading, writing, and speaking.
I'm a New York Times Librarian of the Year and I want to share my love of English writing, grammar, books, and speaking with you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a library director, I ran an after school homework help center at which I assisted many elementary school children with their homework and test preparation. I worked with these children on a one-to-one basis with much success. Additionally, as a librarian in a community where most parents worked, a big part of my job was assisting students with homework assignments, research, writing, and study skills.
I've taught ESL and been a volunteer tutor of ES for many years. Additionally, I write manuals and create documentation for a consortium of 75 public libraries. Writing, documenting, and communicating effectively are critical components of my current and previous jobs.
I have many years of experience helping students improve their English speaking, reading, and writing.
I'm a good communicator with the patience, skill, and enthusiasm to help you get to the next level.
Communicating effectively with the diverse staff members of our 74 member libraries is critical to my job. I have been writing training manuals and documentation for ten years and have successfully trained thousands of staffers. Additionally, I communicate with these libraries on a daily basis. I wouldn't have a shred of credibility if my grammar wasn't top notch.
My Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education/French included many hours of phonetics in French. Additionally, How to Teach Reading was a required course. When I taught and volunteered as an ESL instructor, I worked with students on phonics and sounds and sounding out words.
Study skills are critical to succeeding in school and on the job. I received a grant from Ronald MacDonald House when I was a Library Director to create an after-school homework help center at the library. I helped students there and for many years before and since working on completing assignments in a timely efficient manner - what to study to get homework completed and what to study to do well on tests.
