About Luke

Hi there! My name is Luke. I recently graduated from the William Paterson University Popular Music Studies program in May of 2015, Magna Cum Laude. However, my music education started long before that, when I began learning guitar in 2004. Since then, my ever-expanding love for music has taken me down paths that I never thought I would travel. Consistently teaching, composing, recording/producing, mixing, performing and collaborating with other musicians have shaped me into the well-rounded musician that I have become.

What equips me to teach not just guitar but music composition, theory and production is my "music geek" status; I have an overwhelming desire to continue learning about all aspects of music and to share information about my passion with others who also want to learn about what they love. My hope is that I can teach as I have been taught and inspire as I have been inspired!

I have been playing guitar for 11 years and have been giving private guitar instruction for the past five. Both my high school and undergraduate education have provided me with many years of experience in music theory, ear training and basic piano. I was able to become an intern at The Barber Shop Studios in Hopatcong, NJ for one year, which has seen the likes of The Wailers, Breaking Benjamin and Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule), among many others. In addition to four years of experience producing and recording local bands and artists in a home studio environment, the opportunity to observe veteran audio engineers in a professional studio environment was imperative to my audio career; I am now confident in my knowledge of digital audio, signal flow and processing, and several different DAWs.

Please allow me to help you achieve your goals! I love to see students succeed. My schedule is flexible; feel free to reach out to me for tutoring!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Guitar

I began taking private guitar lessons in 2004 when I was 11 years old. I took lessons for four years and then decided that I could move forward under my own discipline with the knowledge that I had gained during my instruction. I have now been teaching guitar for over five years to three different students, ages ranging from 8 to 40 years old. I have experience playing a wide variety of genres from pop to jazz to rock/heavy metal.

Music Production

I have been producing and recording bands and artists from the tri-state area in a constantly expanding home studio environment for about four years. My music education at William Paterson University was spent largely in the studio, learning not only about audio recording but arranging and producing. During my final two semesters of college, I was able to intern at The Barber Shop Studios in Hopatcong, NJ and observe the mixing techniques of veteran audio engineers. I have since been able to assist friends with troubleshooting audio issues in their DAW, or advise them on how to improve their mixes.
