I am in the process of resuming my pursuit of a master's degree in Instruction and Curriculum, with a Middle School Option. I am looking to go to Montclair State University to finish. I had started out at Kean University, but due to the lack of interest and demand, the program I was enrolled in was put into hiatus. But that is not stopping me from finishing my pursuit. Meanwhile, I am presently a Substitute Teacher in 6 different districts surrounding my place of residence. It is a rewarding experience to gain knowledge of how to manage a classroom, establish a good rapport with students, and provide assistance where needed, especially to the elementary school students. Sometimes I get to teach lessons to the students, in all subject matters.
It is my desire to continue that assistance more fully, especially one-on-one. I would be opened to providing tutoring assistance to students in the comfort of their home, or at the library. Due to space limitations, I would not be able to provide assistance in my home, at least for the time being. That could change down the road.
My tutoring method would be to provide examples of activities that the student is presently working out. If I know ahead of time what they need help in, that would give me an opportunity to put together a "lesson Plan" for the student. For example, if there is a need for reading assistance. The student would read a passage, and then we could have a discussion about the reading, and that would help him or her answer the reading comprehension questions provided. I would show students formulas in mathematics that they could follow and explain each concept as thoroughly as possible. I do not tell the student he or she is wrong. I show them how the answer should be, especially in math.
I do hope to be a valuable service to the student, and I look forward to working with him or her within a caring environment. Thank you for considering me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
