I’m Richard. I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education. I previously taught for five years at a public high school, and continued my love of teaching through one-on-one sessions with students of all ages and mathematical interests. In the classroom, I carefully planned lessons to build upon previous knowledge and introduced new material in ways that were engaging for the students. For tutoring, I have used adjustable plans to prepare for sessions in order to best serve their needs, based upon previous successes and struggles with the subject matter. It is important to me that all students reach their goals, and this means something different to each individual. There are numerous ways for students to learn, based on their strengths, perceptions, and styles of learning. To adapt to these needs, I employ a variety of strategies, manipulatives, visual aids, alternate explanations, and examples relevant to the students’ lives.

I have over ten years’ experience with private tutoring in various subjects. Though my experience is primarily with high school students (Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, etc.), I have worked extensively with elementary school students as the Common Core standards have become increasingly demanding. Through studying many textbooks, and continually working with students, I have developed techniques to reach all individuals to overcome their difficulties in mathematics. My teaching method is constantly evolving along with changes in education, but I always include a student-first, guided approach to solving problems. Students always have the opportunity to complete various examples on their own to ensure understanding of the material.

I have great availability, and understand that tutoring is sometimes needed with short notice. I respond quickly and come prepared to help any student in the area to achieve their goals. I offer a free consultation meeting in which we can discuss individual needs, concerns, and a thorough explanation of my teaching style. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a session.
