I have 15 years experience tutoring, teaching and mentoring. I live in Fair Lawn, NJ and in Feb 2011 became a full time mother of twin girls. I am looking for new students. Currently I predominantly tutor math test prep, including both the SAT, SAT2 and the ACT, but have extensive experience tutoring any level of math from elementary school to college courses, and especially love probability/statistics, calculus, and discrete mathematics.
I prefer to take on students for an extended amount of time, it takes time to digest new learning and it's hard to fit too much into one session. But I have done one time sessions, it depends on the subject how successful that might be.
I love tutoring. I really connect with my students and they become a part of my family. Teaching is so much more than the material, and I really enjoy the opportunity to positively impact other's lives. I have 15 years experience tutoring, teaching and mentoring. I am happy to provide a free in-person consultation before our first lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a M.S.E. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. I have years of experience programming, for math and computer science course, graduate school research, and then in industry: working for a summer at a biotech company, 2.5 yrs in labor economics, and then 2.5 yrs in hedge funds.
I have a M.S.E. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. I was a graduate student working in Discrete Mathematics / Theoretical Computer Science, for 5 years. In addition to extensive programming experience, I have years of coursework in many varieties of Computer Science, from Turing machines and algorithms to Natural Language Processing.
I have a BS and an MSE in Mathematical Sciences from Johns Hopkins, My graduate work focused on Discrete Mathematics, and I was, in addition, a TA for Combinatorics and Graph Theory. I also have an MSE degree in theoretical computer science (also from Johns Hopkins), which is essentially discrete mathematics for computer science.
I spent a summer writing Perl code for a biotech company, and set up forms to run Perl code through web pages. In addition, I predominantly programmed in Perl while taking graduate courses in Computer Science, in particular "Natural Language Processing" and "Information Retrieval and Web Agents".
