My daughter feels very comfortable with Daria and I am very happy that she is tackling her goals with someone who inspires confidence in her as well as someone who has such solid teaching skills.

Daria would be a great tutor for most subjects. She has a nice calm demeanor. She was perfect for the SAT review for my child and I would highly recommend her.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I participated in a year long program to incorporate Reading and Writing in all subjects at a regional Jr/Sr HS and have prepared many students for the SAT Math and SAT Reading and SAT Writing. Having studied Latin for two years I am adept at using prefixes and suffixes to decipher the meaning of new words. Vocabulary (comparing words in sentences) is needed for ACT Reading. I can help the student notice context clues to answer the questions correctly even though you may not remember the meaning of the word. I will review and practice: 1) specific approaches to the multiple-choice reading and writing questions 2) developing writing skills 3) explain how the writing section is scored.

The ACT Mathematics Test is a 60-question, 60-minute test designed to measure the mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken by the end of 11th grade

The test presents multiple-choice questions that require you to use reasoning skills to solve practical problems in mathematics.

You need knowledge of basic formulas and computational skills to answer the problems, but you aren't required to know complex formulas and perform extensive computation.

Algebra 1 covers: simplifying, operations with polynomials, exponents, factoring, various types of word problems, writing equations, solving equations and graphing. These are the general topics.

I try to find multimedia approaches to teach and reinforce the topics you need to learn to master algebra.

Course Description:

A primary goal of Algebra 2 is for students to conceptualize, analyze, and identify relationships among functions. Students will develop proficiency in analyzing and solving quadratic functions using complex numbers. Students will investigate and make conjectures about absolute value, radical, exponential, logarithmic and sine and cosine functions algebraically, numerically, and graphically, with and without technology. Students will extend their algebraic skills to compute with rational expressions and rational exponents. Students will work with and build an understanding of complex numbers and systems of equations and inequalities. Students will analyze statistical data and apply concepts of probability using permutations and combinations. Students will use technology such as graphing calculators. Students will analyze situations verbally, numerically, graphically, and symbolically. Students will apply mathematical skills and make meaningful connections to life's experiences.

These are the general topics covered in Biology:

Cell Structure and Function

Biochemistry

Photosynthesis/Cellular Respiration

Cellular Reproduction

Genetics

Evolution

Classification

Ecology

Human Anatomy

I am particularly adept at making difficult concepts understandable and relating them to our daily experience.

Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Chemistry helps you to understand the world around you. Cooking is chemistry. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. When you study chemistry, you come to understand a bit about how things work. Chemistry isn't secret knowledge, useless to anyone but a scientist. It's the explanation for everyday things, like why laundry detergent works better in hot water or how baking soda works or why not all pain relievers work equally well on a headache. If you know some chemistry, you can make educated choices about everyday products that you use.You could use chemistry in most fields, but it's commonly seen in the sciences and in medicine.

I have worked with children K-12 at Blue Rock School in West Nyack, NY. at JCC on the Palisades and Scout Camps in CT. I prepared fun, hands on lessons in science; created original programs in Tenafly's Weekend Academy such as Hungry Chemist and Geo-Detective. I volunteered to help children practice their reading when my (4) children were in school.

Participated in a Program to incorporate Reading and Writing to all the subjects at River Dell Regional Jr/Sr HS in 2007-2008.

My qualifications to teach Geology are experience teaching Geophysical Science and Earth Science in high school for four years. I have always been interested in the processes of earth movement and changes. With a DVD of short videos showing the varied processes on the earth's surface and under the oceans, I have made the concepts of Geology clear and understandable. Using known geological sites on the internet I can get access up to date information on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, weather and climate changes. As a CCNY Physics major and experienced high school teacher of Physics and Chemistry I have the math background to elucidate geological processes.

This course consists of a study of the basic elements of geometry, i.e., lines, planes, space, angles, curves, figures, and transformations with extensions into three dimensions and coordinate geometry. Throughout this course, reasoning skills are developed starting with conjectures, then progressing to logical arguments and proofs. Properties and relationships of polygons, circles, and solids are studied where problem solving is emphasized.

I have over 20 years experience preparing students for Physics, Chemistry, SAT, ACT, Algebra I and Algebra II, Geometry and Trigonometry tests. Using varied methods of review and test taking strategies I have empowered my students so they felt more confident and were more successful on their tests than they would have otherwise without the training I provided.

I can support and reinforce your knowledge of the mathematics and the sciences required for entering the Nursing field: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, biology, chemistry, physics and physiology.

Physical Science may include the following subjects: Physics-the forces on the matter around us, its energy and how matter moves; Chemistry - the nature of matter and how atoms interact forming the various molecules in us and around us; Earth Science study of the weather, movement of water, plate tectonics and other geologic processes on our planet and in the heavens.

For each of the subject areas above I have either animations, short videos or demonstrations of the multiple phenomena to help understand the processes.

These are some of the main topics covered in Physics:

1-Dimensional Kinematics

Newton's Laws of Motion

Vectors and Projectiles

Forces in Two Dimensions

Momentum and Collisions

Work, Energy and Power

Circular and Satellite Motion

Static Electricity

Electric Circuits

Waves

Sound and Music

Light and Color

Reflection and Mirrors

Refraction and Lenses

Most mathematics problems can be solved with ordinary talent accompanied by extraordinary perseverance. - Anonymous

In studying Pre-Algebra we learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide algebraic expressions (variables and numbers). To solve real problems with variables we write equations and learn to work with fractions and decimals, exponents, ratios, proportions and percent, area, volume, inequalities, linear functions and, my specialty, algebraic word problems.

I try to find multimedia approaches to teach and reinforce the topics you need to learn to master pre-algebra.

It is important to learn how to focus objectively while reading the math questions. I can train you to analyze the questions so you will find a solution. Practicing the varied problems in this way on the SAT's will build your confidence and with diligence and persistence bring a better score.

These are the topics covered on the SAT : Numbers and operations (20–25%), Algebra and functions (35–40%), Geometry and measurement (25–30%), Data analysis, statistics, and probability (10–15%).

I participated in a year long program to incorporate Reading and Writing to all the subjects at a regional Jr/Sr HS.
