About Richard

I am primarily a special education teacher with a lot of experience with multiply disabled children, however I also have sufficient experience as a general education and inclusion teacher as well. Most of my experience is with Middle school and High School students. I have almost nine years teaching experience, and in addition to that, many years of "life experience" which I believe is very important part of being a good teacher. I not only teach academic subjects, but life skills as well. I am certified as an Elementary Teacher, Teacher of Students with Disabilities and K - 12 Social Studies Teacher, I addition I have passed the State Test for Language Arts K - 12. I have been fingerprinted and cleared as an educator by the State of NJ and the FBI for classroom and residential instruction. My teaching method is based on my ability to understand and work with every student's strengths and weaknesses. We always have a positive approach, and I tell my students that it is our job (the student and myself) to find what helps them learn. This is different for every student and this is why students like working with me.
As a business owner in my previous career, I bring many intangibles to instruction. My business experience translates into common sense logic in instruction and, as previously mentioned, the ability to identify many different learning styles in my students. My ability to work comfortably with disabled students as well as gifted and talented students comes from my years of experience working with a diverse student population. I also have experience as a community leader, having been the President of two local synagogues and having served on several community boards. I worked closely with the Boy Scouts many years ago to help my son become an Eagle Scout. I was also a scout troop leader. My desire to help children is a life long quest and I enjoy the challenges that it brings every day.
