University San Martin de Porres (MBA)
As a graduate of the University of San Martin of Lima-Peru, my major and specialties are in Language and Literature. I graduated from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with an Introduction to the Teaching Profession. I worked for a private school teaching Spanish for eight years. Currently I work for Board Education EHT. NJ. I gained a Certificate "Developing Intrinsic Motivation in students." All in all, I have eleven years previous experience working as Spanish Teacher in public and private schools, teaching Spanish as a Second Language.
My approach as a tutor is as a teacher I adapt materials and Instructional Methods to the students interests, needs, abilities in groups, and individual students. Helping people is my passion; I enjoy teaching and working with all children. My teaching style is dynamic and very organized with my lessons and every student's learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real world examples whenever possible.
I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continuously. Also, I give a lot examples of pronunciation--"the practice make the perfection." I give students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly and see what they need to practice on. I use the communicative methodology centered in helping the students develop certain skills and abilities, oral expression, hearing and reading comprehension. The communicative approach gives primary to oral work. Direct contact with the language is very important not just from hearing the teacher, but also from using it from hearing other people besides the teacher. Having personal contact with the language, practicing sounds, improvising, and trying to make your own sentences, getting the chance to make and learn from doing so this another good reason why class should be entirely in Spanish. I let my students talk and express themselves, and let them participate in many conversational activities. My passion is the satisfaction of knowing that I am providing a service, which makes a difference in the lives of my students. Elba takes her time and allows you to work at your own pace. The activities/ materials she provides are helpful.
Elba is a wonderful tutor - she teaches what I wanted to learn, dialogue and conversational Spanish, in a very patient way. Muy agradable!!
Thank you Melisa. I enjoy working with you.
I just started Spanish lessons with my 5 year old daughter. Elba is kind, patient, and encouraging. Everything needed in a great instructor. My daughter enjoyed her session and can't wait till the next one.
I have now had 4 tutoring sessions with Elba. She is always prompt and schedules our meetings at a time and place convenient for me. She prepares for our sessions. She is tutoring me in Spanish. I know some Spanish so she is using the time to review and teach different essential components of the language such as verbs and a variety of verb tenses, vocabulary, idioms, pronunciation, reading comprehension and more. She gives me a lot of information to then review on my own. I feel as though I am getting the foundation that I need to continue with independent study once our tutoring sessions end.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am native from Lima-Peru. I graduated from the University of Lima Peru with excellent pronunciation, grammar, and quality of knowledge in the Spanish Culture, Language and Literature.
I am bilingual and I am passion to teach. I have patience and dedication. Most importantly, I have great experience working as a Spanish Teacher in a private and public school teaching students of different backgrounds of different cultures. My tutoring methods are audiovisual and basically in verbal practices and pronunciations. This is the most important method to learn another language.
