Hello, my name is Matthew Seth T., I'm graduated cum laude from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, with a major in Economics and a minor in Japanese. In addition, I studied abroad for about half a year in Tokyo, Japan at the International Chirstian University (ICU), furthering my studies in both the Japanese language and Japanese culture.
I currently have a large interest in learning about Asian languages and cultures, which is why I aspire to go into academia on the subject in the future. This interest was definitely reinforced by the many supportive and inspirational instructors I had on the subjects during my time at Rutgers. My Japanese professors were particularly impactful on my education, as they always showed a high level of preparation for the lessons, answered questions in-depth, provided ample cultural context for the students' understanding, and generally gave their lectures with an incredible amount of enthusiasm and charisma. It was thanks to them that I not only gained a passion for the culture and language, but also a passion to inspire and help other students in the same way.
At Rutgers University, I took Japanese at the elementary and intermediate level and took advanced level Japanese at ICU (J5 and J6, with the highest possible level there being J7). The textbook used in my elementary and intermediate level classes was Genki I and II, respectively. And through my daily life and experience in Japan, I was exposed to the culture and language first hand.
In addition, during my intermediate level classes at Rutgers, I was part of a study group of 5-8 classmates who often met in preparation for quizzes, exams, extra help, etc. My role in those study groups was to answer questions and help those classmates better understand the material for class so that they wouldn't fall behind.
So through tutoring, I would like to assist other students in a similar way that I was able to back in my time participating in those study group sessions. Feel free to contact me with any further questions or
