About Albert

Hey guys, I'm Albert and I'm a recent graduate of Cornell University, College of Engineering. I majored in Applied and Engineering Physics, with a focus on applied math and applications to computer science. If you couldn't tell, I really do like math and physics and really do enjoy teaching those subjects. I worked at a Kumon Learning Center for about four years. I've had the experience of working with students of all ages. I personally am a product of the Kumon system so I know what it's like to go through the packets and the material. I also know what it's like to communicate with students and understand their problems because I've had the same issues before.

I also do have a bit of experience in college with tutoring and teaching. Two semesters ago, I worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Physics - Mechanics class. I worked as in the lab, helping students get through the different lab procedures and helped teach different concepts first hand. I also held office hours to help any students with problem sets and review material outside of class. I honestly didn't think that I would find teaching to be interesting but I really did enjoy the program. While I am not currently serving as a UTA, I still help people on the side with physics and math. I find it more rewarding to actually help other people understand the material and get good grades. In turn, it helps me to get a better grasp as well. I'm looking forward to helping you in learning physics and math.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

MATLAB

I have taken a course in Matlab, learning about the basics and using it to complete projects. Since then, I have been using it for mathematical modeling, specifically for Monte Carlo simulations and linear regression. I am currently using Matlab for image recognition (machine learning), using back-propagation algorithm and gradient checking. I have experience tutoring Matlab as a personal tutor at Cornell University for the introductory Matlab class.

Piano

I started playing piano when I was 5. I have continued to play, both casually and competitively. I have participated and won in the Golden Key Festival and the American Fine Arts Festival, performing in Carnegie Hall numerous times. I have also participated in the NJMTA Auditions and have been an Honors/High Honors student for 10+ years. I have played piano under contract for the Cornell Savoyards as an accompanist pianist.

Python

I have taught myself Python because it is widely used in the sciences. I have used it for mathematical modeling, specifically for linear regression and Monte Carlo simulations. I have also used it in conjunction with C++ for use in implementing numerical methods like least squares fitting and solving differential equations. Most recently, I have been using Python to do optical photometry and data analysis in observing star clusters in Astronomy.

Violin

I have been playing violin since I was 8. I joined the New Jersey Youth Symphony, playing as both a 1st and 2nd violinist. During my high school years, I joined the Tim Keyes Consort and have performed in various venues. I have been hired as a violinist to play for weddings and funerals in Metuchen and Edison.
