About Christopher

No challenge is too big or small. I am a Theoretical Mathematics and Biomathematics student at Rutgers University. I have completed the major in Theoretical Mathematics and am working on my second major. Which means that I know a lot more math than any sane human should know and that I'm currently learning more and mixing biology in with it. Which means that I don't know when to quit. Which is good for you!

All kidding aside, I'm here to help a wide range of students in a variety of subjects, whatever the occasion may be. Maybe you're just brushing up for that big test that's coming up or maybe you've been struggling with a subject for what feels like forever and it's starting to seem like a hopeless cause. It doesn't matter. I'm here to help you achieve your goals and focus on what you need to succeed as a student. I teach under the assumption that if you want to learn then you can. Some students catch on a little quicker than others and some students are a little slower than others. Some students catch on a lot quicker than others and some catch on a lot slower than others. If math clicks with you and you can move fast, that's great. If it doesn't and it takes you a little longer to grasp subjects, that's fine too. Everyone is an individual and maybe you just need someone to teach from a unique perspective that you can relate to. When I tutor, I'm not going to leave you sitting in the dust while I ramble on about something you don't understand. No, I'm going to try to be as perceptive as possible and attack the material from many different angles until I feel I've found one that makes something as difficult Calculus, Differential Equations or Linear Algebra seem like 2+2, the ABC's and 123's. It may not click right away, but that just means I'm headed back to the drawing board and we'll take a better crack at it next time.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the starting line students approach when they have are ready to advance past the simple arithmetic and number theory of grade school math. I have extensive experience tutoring students in algebra 1 and my education in mathematics has made it almost second nature to me.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the next step students typically take after algebra 1 and is meant to prepare them with the analytical and equation solving skills they will need in order to pursue moving on to pre-calculus and calculus. Completing the Theoretical Mathematics curriculum at Rutgers University has required me to have a deep understanding of these concepts and skills.

Calculus

Senior Theoretical Mathematics (completed) / Biomathematics (will complete Fall 2016) Major at Rutgers University

Geometry

Math Major, a lot of experience with physics and engineering.

Linear Algebra

I am qualified to tutor linear algebra because I have successfully completed all the major courses required for a bachelor's degree in theoretical mathematics at Rutger's University and am completing the requirements for my second major, biomathematics, this semester. I received an A in my undergraduate Linear Algebra course. I have also taken the 300 level proof based course that expands on what is typically covered in a Linear Algebra course. I have taken many other math, physics and engineering courses that utilize the skills learned in Linear Algebra including: Linear Optimization, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, Partial Differential Equations, Analytical Physics 1/2 and Multivariable Calculus . Further, I have graded course work for 2 consecutive semesters for courses in Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. The latter is relevant because many skills and principles from Linear Algebra are utilized in the course. For these reasons, I believe I am qualified to tutor Linear Algebra.

Logic

I received a final graded of an "A" in the Rutgers University course entitled "Language, Proof and Logic." I have also taken many proof based courses that require the use of logic and Boolean Logic in my career as a math major such as: Introduction to Real Analysis, Introduction to Abstract Algebra, Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning, Graph Theory and both matrix based and proof based Linear Algebra.

Precalculus

Senior Math Student at Rutgers (final semester), Teacher's assistant for Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, ex-biomedical engineering sophopmore in Rutgers School of Engineering.

Trigonometry

I have completed the Theoretical Mathematics major at Rutgers. Courses I have completed that require a deep knowledge of trigonometry are: Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, differential equations, Partial differential equations, Real Analysis, Probability Theory, Linear Optimization, Mathematical Reasoning, general physics 1, general physics 2, analytical physics 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B, statics, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering and Biomechanics.

Excellent teacher, knows his stuff

Christopher has been a great help in expanding my understanding of calculus, and all the math leading up to calc. I feel that he has helped fill in some of the gaps I had in math that was making Calc difficult.
