I have an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and my undergraduate majors were Linguistics and English Literature, my minors - Russian and Japanese. I have worked as a writing and language tutor at the college level for over four years, and have experience with editing and revising essays as well as with ESL and English grammar education. I can also offer help with proofreading, grammar, reading comprehension, and other writing and reading skills. My approach is to help a student learn useful strategies for dealing with complicated writing assignments, such as outlining, proofreading, and revising, and to show them how to identify and correct their own mistakes. Furthermore, I am a native speaker of Russian, and have also studied the Russian language in a formal college setting, so I can offer help with grammar, pronunciation, writing, and reading in Russian. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a native Russian speaker with a background of three years formal study in college. During that time I studied the phonetics, phonology, syntax, grammar, and usage of Russian. I also have had two years experience in leading a Russian Conversation Group on campus, the focus of which was to deepen student's understanding and knowledge of the Russian language through mostly speaking exercises.
