Hello Students and Parents,
My name is Moin and I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Hello Students and Parents,
My name is Moin and I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I have a passion for teaching because, for me, teaching is the best way of learning. Regardless of how many times I have taught a subject, I learn something new in every teaching session. I also believe that one's interest in a subject depends very much on the teaching one received. Mathematics is my most favorite subject - I simply love this subject. I am skilled in mathematics - thanks to my teachers at various levels who generated interest in mathematics and taught me what a good teaching means.

I teach mathematics in almost all its areas - Algebra, Arithmetic, Calculus, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Statistics, and of course SAT/ACT Mathematics Preparation. Three other subjects I enjoy teaching are Statics, Dynamics, and Solid Mechanics. These three subjects are of course mathematical.

My professional degrees are in Mechanical Engineering with two PhD degrees, one from IIT Roorkee, India and the other from the University of Oklahoma, USA. I have 25+ years of teaching experience in various engineering schools.

With all my passion for mathematics and teaching, I can always assure my students of the best possible results. I take this as my responsibility that grades and scores of my students improve. And, I also try that my students develop interest in the subject I'm teaching them.

Fortran

I consider myself to be a highly skilled FORTRAN programmer who is extensively experienced in scientific computing related to two- and three-dimensional structural mechanics, fluid dynamics, and granular flow problems. (I have in-depth knowledge of various computational methods including the finite element, finite difference, and differential quadrature methods, and general methods of numerical analysis.) I learned FORTRAN programming in 1972 for the computational work of my MS thesis (FORTRAN was the most prevalent programing language at that time). I have experienced writing codes in all the versions of FORTRAN (II, IV, V, 77, 90, and 95) since that time.

SAT Math,

SAT Math

SAT remains a challenging task for all students. As a math teacher, I would like to express my views on SAT Math only. SAT Math is sure a different kind of material than what comes across in the textbooks, classroom, and in the usual homework/quizzes/tests. That is what makes the SAT Math difficult. In fact on the cover sheet of the SAT test booklet, one would find this test termed as "SAT Reasoning Test". Realistically speaking almost all the problems, particularly in the multiple choice sections, are based on reasoning, and one can logically often narrow down the choices of possible answers to two (out of the given 5) and even to just one of the correct answers. Reasoning is often needed in many of the open-ended (student produced response) questions as well. Having said that, it must be emphasized that basic math skills are very much necessary for the test. The subject areas of SAT Math are quite limited. However, the variety of questions are virtually unlimited. In every test, one finds some problems ,which have something new and different in them. In preparing the students for SAT Math, I first spend few sessions on the basic math skills in all the needed areas so that one may get started with practice. The variety of questions is so vast that continued practice is of utmost importance for SAT Math Prep. I therefore get the student involved in practice from the very beginning. Of the many books available, the College Board's book is, to my mind, the best. Besides that I give my own worksheets and quizzes. Practice and review of the homework and the work during the sessions helps very well for building up the skills. At some point, I start giving timed tests as homework and during the sessions and assessing the progress. It gives me immense satisfaction that many of my students have been able to score from upper 600's to the upper 700's. Of course there are a couple of students who have made perfect scores as well.

My educational background includes two PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India (1980) and the University of Oklahoma (1994). I have 25 years of teaching experience. I have taught mechanical engineering, specifically applied mechanics (engineering statics and dynamics, vibrations, fluid mechanics) at two universities. Besides, I am an active researcher in these areas (applied mechanics) with 65+ peer-reviewed research publications.

Moin helped me very well

Moin and I went over an SAT practice test and with his guidance I was able to realize it is very easy to get my math SAT score up as I was making silly mistakes which he helped correct.

Tutor responded:

Thanks very much, Sumat, for your very encouraging feedback.

Excellent tutor

In the first lesson he taught me how to calculate Quadratic Functions. Moinuddin is extremely through as he taught me how to calculate the equations with and without a calculator and how to check my work.

Tutor responded:

Thanks very much for the feedback on the very first lesson. You seem to have good aptitude for math as you picked up what I explained very quickly. I hope you that by the end of this course you will be well skilled in Algebra for moving on to pre-Calculus and Calculus. Best wishes.

Amazing calculus tutor, highly time flexible and high score guarenteed

I go to Rutgers University and my major is Food Science. I was going to take calculus as my math class and I was quite nervous on how that was going to go. When Mr. Moinuddin sat with me he was able to pinpoint exactly what I didn't know from the math questions that I had and he would explain to me those concepts in easily understandable step by step format. Whenever I was stuck on a math question or concept regardless of what day of the week, time (even close to midnight) Mr. Moin would somehow be able to make arrangements so that he could come over to my house and patiently explain the solution and concept behind the question that stumped me. Mr. Moin is distinguished among all tutors in that he does not limit his stay to a fixed amount of time. He will always stay for as much time as you need so that you can fully understand the concept and math questions that you have. Largely in part due to Mr. Moin's efforts I have received an A in my calculus course the highest grade Rutgers University can give for a course. Mr. Moin was easily approachable, friendly and kept me engaged throughout the whole session. He also had perfect punctuality of timing and always arrived on the dot.

Vamsi, 16 lessons with Moinuddin
Tutor responded:

Thanks very much Vamsi for your thorough feedback. You sure must have spent time in preparing it. In fact thoroughness is your very style of working. You were so thorough in preparing for Calculus. You always tried to fully understand various topics and then put in as much practice as possible. During the entire tutoring period I found you to be very determined and hardworking. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors for reaching the career goals.

Great lessons

It's always pleasure to learn from Mr. Moin. In depth knowledge and great teaching, always. I am relaxed as I know my son is in good hands. Thank you sir.

Aditya, 16 lessons with Moinuddin
Tutor responded:

Thanks so much Aditya, for putting trust in me. Your feedback is overwhelming. It's inspiriting too that I have to keep striving for betterment of teaching as explaining and making one to understand is a never ending challenge.

Excellent and Highly recommended tutor!

Moin is an excellent tutor who has the student's success at heart. He worked with our daughter and helped her to increase her Math SAT scores 100 points over the course of 10 weeks. If your student is motivated and willing to work, Moin is the tutor that will moved him/her to the next level. His methodology of teaching will greatly increase your student's understanding of the material so that your student feels confident and ready for the taking the test. We highly recommend him.

Charmaine, 47 lessons with Moinuddin
Tutor responded:

Thanks so much Charmaine for your kind words. I just try my best but the credit really goes to the students. Your daughter is very well skilled in math. Above all, she is a highly focused and motivated student. I wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.

Great tutor ... Striving for excellence

Moin has been tutoring me for a year now and his dedication to teaching never fails to amaze me. I have learned so much from him in the past year and he constantly strives to challenge me. His level of confidence in me pushes me to constantly try my best. He managed to clarify concepts that I struggled to grasp and provided me with enough work to reinforce both new and old skills.
