Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ (Elementary Education)
This year ends my second year as head classroom teacher for the Montclair Public School System. My experience ranges from Kindergarten to 4th Grade Science. My teaching history has allowed me to become fluent with a variety of different teaching methods including Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Workshop, teaching to the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA2), and preparing students for the NJ ASK assessment. My abilities make me a valuable teacher to those who learn through a variety of methods such as visual, audio, or tactile.
I have taught to multiple levels of learners and understand the need for an empathetic and patient approach to what may be viewed as foreign or frustrating. Prior to teaching, I worked in a retail as a manager for Lakeshore Learning Store. Lakeshore is a educational resource store that sells a variety of tools and methods to make learning fun. I believe in teaching via games, songs, and assessments that provide useful data to adapt the learning experience to the betterment of the child.
My tutoring experience is limited to a handful of students outside my district. However, as mentioned before, having to teach to a variety of levels in the classroom created a need to administer one on one or small group instruction to those who need the individual attention. I believe that the at home experience provided by tutoring allows me to introduce a learning schedule to every child's routine. I can show them games that will teach them, how reading can be fun, and how to approach tests with confidence.
I look forward to becoming your child's tutor and developing a relationship that will broaden your child's abilities to learn.
My teaching experience has allowed me to view and convey the Common Core in a very fun and non-stressful approach. Every grade has a list of requirements to ensure they are learning on grade level that will prepare them for the upcoming grade level as well. I can use the Common Core to assess and check list your child's abilities for strengths and weaknesses.
I am qualified to teach elementary education from grades K-5. My experience has prepared students for a variety of assessments including the DRA 2 which is used to assess your child's reading level to the NJ ASK which encompasses all subject matter.
If you are looking for a compassionate, patient, and empathetic educator, choose me for your child's tutor. I have access to great resources, information, and professionals in the field. I take learning serious and manage it with heart. I can make education an experience that will make your child look forward to the upcoming school year and eager to show off their skills. I look forward to hearing from you and scheduling our first lesson! This year ends my second year as head classroom teacher for the Montclair Public School System. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While teaching in the Montclair Public School System, we are obligated to teach each subject matter according the Common Core. My assessments ensure that each skill required by the Common Core has been mastered prior to moving on.
My teaching certificate qualifies me to teach all elementary subjects from grades K- 6. My experience as a classroom teacher is in Kindergarten and 4th Grade Science. As a substitute teacher I've taught all grade levels within that range.
While teaching in Montclair, I have become familiar with a word study program known as Fundations. Fundations encompasses all aspects of letter sound recognition. I am a head classroom teacher for the Montclair Public School System.
While teaching in Montclair, I have been exposed to state tests including the PARCC, NJ ASK and DRA 2. All of which I have had to prepare my students for through a variety of study skills including song, visual presentations and tactile projects.
