University of Pennsylvania (Physics)
I am a University of Pennsylvania graduate, a CPA, and a certified teacher in math and accounting. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, and teaching since I graduated from college. Currently, I am an adjunct professor at a community college teaching basic skills math and accounting.
My CPA license is in New Jersey, and I hold New Jersey and Pennsylvania high school teaching certificates. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA major in physics. After graduation, I taught high school physics in the Philadelphia public school system for nine years. Then I worked for a contractor as the office manager and bookkeeper, took accounting courses at night, formed a custom computer software programming company, and achieved the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. In 1995, I returned to teaching at the college level and since 2002 have been teaching basic skills prealgebra, basic skills algebra, and financial and managerial accounting at a community college as an adjunct professor. One year ago, I joined the math tutoring lab at the college where I tutor in addition to teaching.
I am passionate about my teaching and tutoring, and my evaluations are excellent. My tutees and students tell me that I explain concepts in such a way as to make them easy to understand. I believe that I can help any student achieve success in prealgebra, algebra 1, and financial and managerial accounting. I am glad to offer my services in tutoring these subjects. Leo helped me better understand the language and basics of accounting. He also assisted me with my course project using ratios for a comparative financial analysis and how to read a 10K statement.
Over the last 10 weeks, Leo has tutored me in the principles of accounting. Leo's has provided me the competencies with detailed descriptions of the various levels of proficiency that have created a foundation for me to build on. Thanks to Leo, taking accounting classes online has been successful.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
