I am currently a teacher at a local middle school where I teach seventh and eighth grade special education. I teach all major subjects, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science to a class of both seventh and eighth graders. While I teach these four major subjects, I am most passionate about Language Arts because I love writing and bringing out creativity in my students.
I tutor different parts of Language Arts including Essay Editing, Writing, Phonics, Grammar, Reading and Public Speaking. I enjoy tutoring these subjects because they are essential building blocks to all other subjects and parts of life. I also tutoring special education and study skills and organization.
I believe that every student has the right to an equal education. The purpose of education is not just about having students get an answer correct. It is about having students understand why an answer is correct. It is about making students realize that they can learn anything they want to and can be anything they want to be. Not every student learns the same way, so it is important that teachers and tutors know how to approach lessons using multiple modalities to reach every student. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching the Yankees and Giants and spending time outside.
I have my masters in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University and my undergrad from Saint Joseph's University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education. I am certified to teach Elementary grades kindergarten through sixth grade, and Special Education from kindergarten through twelfth grade in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified in elementary and special education. I have passed the Praxis for all elementary grade level subjects. I currently teach special education, grades K-3.
