About Michael

Hello,

My name is Michael. I am a very experienced Math Instructor. I taught High School Mathematics in New York City for 12 years. I was fortunate enough to teach many different math classes and because of this experience I am confident that I can tutor at many different levels. The different classes that I taught include Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra-2 / Trigonometry, and Statistics.

I was recognized on many occasions as being an extremely proficient teacher by students, parents, and colleagues because I was able to bring the math down to a level that students understood and felt comfortable about accomplishing. A method that I used that proved successful was conjugating the Math to English. This method entailed writing the math steps first and then doing the math. The quote I often used was “Think It, Write It, Do It”. With this method being employed, students were able to better follow the instruction and had a point of reference to go back to. It also allowed for an overall better comprehension of the topic. I still use this strategy in my tutoring efforts.

One of my accomplishments that I am most proud of is obtaining Certification as a TI-83 and 84 Graphing Calculator Trainer. I also spent many hours on my own reading manuals on how to use the calculator with in the classroom in accordance with the topics. This proved extremely advantageous because students had another method to help them with comprehension and accomplishment. I taught many Graphing Calculator elective classes and trained other teachers on its usage. Students were able to use their Graphing Calculator skills to help them pass the NY State’s three math exit exams and achieve better scores on their SATs.

My tutoring experience is vast as I always stayed after school to tutor. I tutored at Saturday Academies and also went to students’ home through a program called Home Instruction. I have a wealth of material to use and I am extremely confident that I can help any person with their math skills that are in accordance with the subjects I am proficient in.

My rates are affordable for a reason and that is because a lot of people will not procure tutoring for their child based on the ability to pay. I want to ensure that anyone who needs tutoring can obtain it from me regardless of any money constraints. Therefore, I also make my rates negotiable based on circumstances.

Please consider me as I am extremely confident that it will be a win-win situation for everyone!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is a math subject that I am very well versed in. It is a class that I have extensively taught and tutored since 2001. I also have a vast amount of knowledge on how to use the graphing calculator in relation to Algebra which has proven extremely helpful to students with not only solving the problems but comprehending it as well.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is my favorite math class that I have taught. The topics are very interesting because the real world applications are fascinating. My extensive knowledge of graphing calculators and the application of it allows me to show an additional method to solve the problems. This allows for a better comprehension for the students.

Geometry

I taught Geometry in a High School setting on a daily basis while also helping students after school prep for the Regents Exam. I also have a wealth of material that can aid in my tutoring that will benefit the student as well.

Prealgebra

Because of my vast experience of teaching HS Math for 12 years it allows me to understand the Pre-Algebra structure and where it is trying to go. I have also taught Pre-Algebra on a daily basis to students who were in High School, but still struggled with math. I was able to adequately prepare them for the Algebra course they took next. I also possess a wealth of material that can aid in my tutoring of the subject.

Michael focuses on what matters

Michael is quick to understand what you need to learn and how to get you there. He is very supportive and easy to understand and relate to. He rushed over to my house at a critical moment....the night before my Algebra final without even a half-a-days notice. Great Guy. Great tutor.
