I am a current educator with over 16 years of experience tutoring students at all grade levels. I provide general homework help, standardized test PSAT, SAT and ACT preparation and assistance in developing effective study skills that will ensure success in all subject areas. In addition, I specialize in two areas of expertise: mathematics: elementary through high school including Algebra I and II and Geometry, and writing: coaching and editing for college essays, research papers and all written assignments.
I have the ability to make students understand math at any and all levels. I firmly hold to the philosophy that everyone can do math. My approach involves testing the waters, initially, and figuring out what methods work for an individual student.
I tailor my tutoring sessions based on individual student needs and learning styles. I create a rapport with the students I tutor which allows them to feel at ease with me and build confidence in their own capabilities through the support and encouragement I provide them. All this, while making learning fun, which I believe to be important in helping students to develop an ongoing passion for learning.
I am confident that any student would make significant progress studying with me, and my classroom experience also makes me sensitive to individual issues that might arise, such as test anxiety. I am patient, methodical, and kind, but have high expectations that my students will achieve success in math and writing.
Above all, I find math to be fun and exciting, and I love to instill that enthusiasm in my students!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with children who have ADD/ADHD in the classroom setting for 14 years. Through the help of an inclusion teacher, I was able to implement modifications specific to each child's learning needs. I also attended numerous IEP meetings where I was asked to develop additional modifications to help support the academic progress of children with ADD/ADHD.
Having been a general education teacher in an inclusion setting for the past 10 years, I have experience with autistic students. I have also sat in on many IEP meetings and addressed the specific modifications necessary for autistic students. Many students with special needs have a different way of learning and it's important as a teacher to differentiate my lesson to address these needs.
For the past two years, I have served as an independent educational counselor. This job entails helping prospective college students narrow down their college searches, develop and enhance their college essay applications, and seek out necessary financial aid. I have also served as a writing coach to high school students to improve their writing techniques in their English courses.
I am a certified mathematics teacher who has passed the Praxis where discrete math was tested. I also teach discrete math concepts in my classroom. In the summer, I work at an enrichment program where students work in groups to solve problems involving discrete mathematics.
I hold a current Elementary Ed (K-8) certification. I have tutored several students in language arts math, and science in the 6th grade. My 14 years of experience teaching middle school and tutoring middle school children makes me qualified to tutor this grade level.
As an Accelerated Algebra teacher of middle school students, I have taught linear algebra through both direct instruction and small group learning communities. Students would also create their own linear algebra problems and present them to the class. I have created tests and quizzes on the linear algebra skill as well.
I have several years of experience tutoring students in the SAT exam with a proven success rate.
My certification is middle and high school math and language arts. I have been teaching and tutoring for 16 years. I have taught an SAT prep class at the local high school and stay up-to-date on the new strategies and techniques to improve one's score on the both the SAT and ACT test prep. I provide all of the materials and administer a pre- and post-test to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses.
For the past 14 years, I have served as a Track and Field coach on the middle school level. This past year, we won a regional invitational against 13 other schools. I have been a runner for nearly 20 years and am also a former participant in the Boston Marathon.
